Hello everyone. I am a new LPN graduate. I am currently studying for the NCLEX and plan to take it in about a month. How did you prepare for boards? What was you first job as an LPN? What state and what was the pay rate?
Hi, I graduated in March 2013 but didn't take my boards until June. I studied Saunders 5th edition & exam cram. I also did the 5 week NCSBN course but didn't get to finish it. I passed with 100 questions. It took me about a month and a week to get my first job bcz I moved out of state & had to go through the process of endorsing my license. I started at a LTC/Rehab facility @ $21.50, I'm in TX.
I will be a LPN a year this Sept. My school made it mandatory for us to get the green light from ATI. I graduated in July didn't get to sit for my boards till the 1st of Sept got my license number a week later. My 1st job was in home care with a peds patient and the pay was $22. Good luck with your NCLEX, go in there confident and pray and you will do great. Have faith in your ability as a nurse and you will do fine.
I live in Boston and the new grad market is incredibly competitive. I took my nclex in November 2012 and found work in March in a correctional facility. The pay is good 25/hr but the work environment is less than desirable! Currently looking for a position that will actually build upon nursing skills.
I graduated Dec 2012, got my ATT in April, scheduled my NCLEX for June. Got my result July 5, got my actual license Aug 2. Applied to a sub-acute hospital Aug 7, got interviewed and hired Aug. 15. New grad, no experience starting $19/hr with benefits.
When I studied for my NCLEX, I used Saunders Comprehensive (red book) and exam cram, they were my bestfriend. My comp stopped at 120 something and I walked out almost crying cus I forsure thought I failed. Did the PVT and got the good pop up! It's been a crazy 4 months for me.
Good luck to you! Study hard.
I prepared for my boards by studying my LPN textbook, NCLEX practice books, and internet LPN questions. I passed first time thank God! My first job was at a local nursing home, quit after 3 or 4 shifts! It wasn't for me... Landed a clinic job later on which I liked much better. Good luck!

My first LPN job as a floor nurse in a short term rehab/SNF facility. I was offered the job 2 weeks before I graduated. In 2008, my start pay was $25/hr.
I didn't really study for the NCLEX. My ATT came in about 2 wks after graduation and I schedueled my NCLEX for a couple days later.
