What was your first LPN job?l

Published

Hello everyone. I am a new LPN graduate. I am currently studying for the NCLEX and plan to take it in about a month. How did you prepare for boards? What was you first job as an LPN? What state and what was the pay rate?

Hi, I just passed last may. I took ncsbn online for 5 weeks. I am a mother of 3 yrs old and 2 months old baby that time. After a long rest from sleepiness nights of having a new born i decided to start my journey of studying my exam. I will only study 2 hrs a day because of my situation for 5 weeks. I do exercise before I will study and pray hard. I took my exam and shut down 85 and I knew I made it coz I had 18 select all the applies and I knew I'm doing good. I submitted 3 resumes and got a interview right away and took my exam last Thursday. Friday, I got a call that they will hire me after my background check.im glad and I'm blessed. I'm living at San Jose California.

hey, my first job was at an assisted living facility. I got it the week after I passed my N-Clex. I live in NYC and the pay is $25.

My first job was doing flu shots with a company out of AZ. I worked in walmarts (not my favorite place) and various food processing /industrial sites (much better).

I became the jedi-master of giving IM injections, having given hundreds in about 3 or 4 months.

Right after that, I got my current job working in urgent care (even better yet!).

BTW, I heard about the flu shot job right here on AN! They hire in July/August for work that starts in September, going thru December. If you are able to work independently, are reliable, have people skills, and have no problem filling out paperwork, give it a go.

Good luck!

Specializes in DOD employee.

What is the name of the flu shot company you worked for? Are they only in AZ? Thanks.

HQs are in AZ, but they contract all over the country.

I didn't study for the test. I decided nursing school was enough and I graduated with a 3.77. I took the test and passed the first time. I didn't want to be all stressed out! My first job was in a clinic setting, it really helped me learn medication. I loved it and had a wonderful teaching physician. It was like clinicals all over. Good luck!

First job was in a residential substance abuse program in NYC

Pediatric office

My first job.out of school.was at an adult day center.

I graduated in 2010. My first LPN job was at the county jail. The pay was $18.00 an hour. I was hired there as a graduate practical nurse about a month before I took the NCLEX.

I didn't care for it. First of all, it wasn't really a county job. Medical an nursing services at this jail were provided by a staffing agency, so all the nurses and physicans worked for said agency, not the county. Also, I found I missed bedside, hands-on nursing. (I had been an aide for years) This came as a surprise to me, since my main reason for pursuing corrections was I figured it would be more to my liking. Turns out I like "traditional" bedside nursing better, poop and all.

My current job is at a state ran nursing home. I am a state employee, as opposed to working for a private staffing agency, which is nice. The starting pay was $19something an hour. Almost three years later, I make $22.75 an hour plus a $2.00 night shift differential.

All of this was in Michigan.

I just graduated about three months or so ago in the state of Tennessee and took my boards as soon as I was approved. I honestly tried tostudy but in the end, nothing I covered was even on my exam -.-! However, I did pass on my first try, despite the fact I was very unsure when I left the testing center. I averaged about a 3.5 GPA during my training to give you an idea of statistics and such.

In my opinion, which someone might disagree, is don’t overstudy or stress out! You’ll end up over doing it. Don’t allow yourself to study the DAY of the test, eat a balanced breakfast and get a full nights sleep the night before! If you didn’t learn it in training the chances are you’re not going to cram it in within just a day before the exam. Good luck! =)

I landed my first job with a great non-profit organization working with emotionally disturbed female children. Sounds like a handful but it’s actually a wonderful job! Great benefits and my starting pay is 15/hr. I work 2-10 M-F and do some floating nurse work when needed. I think the cap-out pay with my company is $28 an hour.
