What was your first job as a new grad ? And where are you now in your nursing career ?

ADN here. Private duty nursing for 1 yr. Just got offered a position on a med-surg floor at a hospital, finally. Most likely because I'm working on my BSN. So excited!

Specializes in General Hospital Medical.

I'm currently starting out, starting my first LPN job in LTC next week.

Specializes in New Critical care NP, Critical care, Med-surg, LTC.

I was in a long term care facility for five years, then a little less than a year in med-surg and now ICU. Many options out there!

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I worked in the ortho rehab section of a rehab/SNF. I was there 10 months until I got my dream job: ortho nurse at the hospital I am at still. Best part I was considered a new grad @ 10 months so I got great orientation with some experience.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

ED/Trauma x 10 years, then infection prevention/epidemiology for a year, now working in appeals. Oh, and also working in education for the last two years (part-time, online).

Thats great. Hospitals have so much to offer. I currently work per diem at a subacute rehab its a nice facility but not enough action for me. Hardly any IV’s, trach, gtubes or ventilator. As a brand new nurse i feel like im waiting away. If i dont use it i’ll lose it.

I would love to work in the ED one day.

Specializes in Geriatrics.

I started in LTC, and within a few years will retire- from the same facility! I love the craziness of it and have learned so much over the years.. I now take care of the "kids" of folks I took care of years ago. I work in a very small town and wouldn't trade this for anything. Even when I'm burned out and ready to give up, I keep on keeping on!

Specializes in NICU.

It was a long time ago,was promised day shift in large nicu and several weeks orientation, then they said oops it is only for night shift but orientation on days,....

well everyday I was placed in adult floors, nuero, orthopedic, even isolation for a contagious illness, also left alone with patient with neck iv empty bag, left alone with immobile neuro to do lifting etc alone.....never saw a nicu....needless to say I did not stay.
