What would you change about your scrubs?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hey all~

I am doing research for a line of scrubs and would like to find out what nurses like/ dislike about their uniforms.

I am a fashion design student that recently spent some time in the hospital for cancer treatment this summer. I was so inspired by the compassion and care shown by the nurses and would like to thank you guys by providing uniform options that are comfy, stylish and help the wearer feel more 'individualized'.

What elements (pockets, elastic waistbands, tagless uniforms, etc) do you look for in a pair of scrubs?

What would you change about scrubs if you had the chance? (here's your chance)

What are the most popular colors worn by nurses? What colors/ prints do you dislike?

What instruments/ items do you carry on your person when you work? (pen, paper, hidden snack wink.gif )

What are the dress code restrictions at your place of work?

Thank you for any input. More importantly, thank you for always giving to those around you- giving your time, comforting words, upbeat vibes and patience. It means more than you know.

I HATE DOLMAN SLEEVES. I like a set-in sleeve, and a couple of little princess-line darts and one for each mammary wouldn't hurt, either.

We wear mostly white where I work. I don't like brights and, as someone who wore them the first time around, could we PLEASE have a few that aren't groovy, baby?

What instruments/ items do you carry on your person when you work?

I would love welted pockets within pockets that had spaces for three pens/pencils, otoscope, penlight, scissors, saline flushes. A pocket (little) on the front, one for alcohol wipes, one for IV caps. The pockets should be DEEP and I should be able to bend over without my crap flying all over.

I don't know. I never asked. I wear whites. :)

I would adore something that hits me at the UPPER hip. I am built like a guitar, and the typical scrub top makes me look like a pear with feet. I started making my own but I'm a rather indifferent seamstress.

Oh, how rude of me!

Thank you.

My biggest gripe is that I swim in medium size scrub tops, size small looks like it fits perfect once its on, but actually putting it on, or worse yet, trying to take it off is horrible. I need something with just a little give, a little stretch so that I can get my arms in or out of the sleeves, otherwise I get stuck!

Elastic waist bands and pockets in pants that are deep enough that things don't fall out of them when you sit down. It would also be nice if they were not so scrub like. I am getting soooo tired of the same old unisex designs I can't hardly stand it anymore. Of course at 59 I won't have to stand it much longer anyhow.

Kerrigan..how heavy is your scrub top to carry around??? :lol2: You seem a very well equipped and organised nurse! Me, well in my pocket is a pen and a calculator, anything heavier and I'd be displaying my assetts for all to view!:lol2:WHY are the V's so low??? Its too hot to wear anything like a tee underneath, so wish the neckline was a bit higher, even clip on badges drag that neckline down to exposure level.

Heh. I don't share that problem. I also don't have cleavage.

Cleavage.. Over Rated!

i guess i'm the only old-fashioned one here.

i LOVE wearing a scrub dress i have.

if i could find one like this, it would be:

roomy yet tailored.

deep, slanted inside pockets;

short, roomy sleeves (not dolman)

all cotton (or something equally as breathable, crisp and soft) yet non-staining.

this dress wraps around to the front, w/an inside drawstring to tie at the waist.

i tuck my stethoscope underneath the tied part, and drape it over.

it is beautiful.

can't find it anywhere. (a gift from out of state)

its length is to mid-shin.

it covers everything: is feminine, practical and so comfortable.

if i had the talent, i would sew these dresses up and market them in a heartbeat.

there must be SOME fuddy-duddies like me...

I sometimes wear skirts. That, of course, evokes a cry of, "THERE'S A SKIRT IN THE HOUSE!"

oh no, sue.

my dress is nothing like that.

it's much longer w/a sweeping, fuller, roooooomy bottom-

no collar (wide princess neckline)-

snaps on inside and continues to wrap.

it's a genuine wrap dress-

so simple and feminine- and deep, deep, roomy pockets.

it reminds me of a poor girl's prom dress from the 1800's. :chuckle

I would like to see more pants available online in extra-extra long or UN-hemmed so I can hem them to my precise length. I find pleanty of comfortable pants, but they dont fit in length. I cannot order online at all because none of them fit, so I have to spend the extra money to buy them in a store or have them tailored.

I'd like that. I'd like a full skirt shirtwaist with big pockets. Dream on, right?

Heck, I'd wear a big apron if I could find one. THEY MAKE SENSE!
