What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

So why didn’t Southwest simply update its software and systems?

Well, if you are a corporate executive whose compensation is tied to stock prices and earnings statements released every three months, there are strong incentives to address any immediate problem by essentially adding a bit of duct tape and wire to what you already have, rather than spending a large amount of money — updating software is costly and difficult — to address the root problem. Then you can cross your fingers and hope that whatever catastrophe may be in the making, it erupts under someone else’s future tenure. Such bets often pay off since, increasingly, the plight of a company’s customers and employees is divorced from the immediate fortunes of its current top executives.

They decide to executive compensation before performance is measured.

Quote

In 2020, for instance, Southwest C.E.O. Kelly’s compensation was a record $9.2 million, despite the fact that the company lost more than $3 billion that year because of the pandemic, and the compensation for the median employee fell by $35,000, to about $66,000. (The company said his compensation had been set in place before the pandemic.) In the years leading up to the pandemic, while the company’s aging scheduling technology groaned, the company spent $8.5 billion of its excess cash on purchasing its own stock — a common practice among airlines which helps increase the value of the stock, the main form of compensation for many executives. Then, when the pandemic hit, like other airlines, Southwest received billions from the government in grants and low-interest loans. Kelly, an accountant who became the C.E.O. of Southwest in 2004, retired earlier this year, with an estimated net worth in the tens of millions of dollars, so the crisis did indeed occur under someone else’s tenure.

It's a story that we've heard over and over in one version or another...customers and service are always a lower priority than profit in big American business.

So far I think the only thing that he hasn't lied about is his own name. But maybe he has lied about his name and that's why the college and employers aren't confirming his association.

But it’s so much easier to blame Secretary Buttigeig than to examine a corporation.

Interesting to see the small-government crowd complaining about ineffective government oversight.

It's successful for them.  Their voters don't see the inconsistency or contradiction in their slogans about family values, fiscal responsibility or law and order when contrasted with current events or recent history.

As His Life of Fantasy Comes Into Focus, George Santos Goes to Washington https://nyti.ms/3IlGBXj

Two things stand out to me in this ongoing story... first, the reality that the likely next speaker of the house is so politically weak that he cannot speak out against a lying grifter because he needs that liars vote. That foretells the corruption that will be ignored as McCarthy struggles to build ANY manner of republican consensus.

Second, this fellow Santos seems to think that his choices to lie and cheat are "mistakes" or him "messing up".

Quote

Mr. Santos has denied that he committed crimes in the United States or abroad. But the Brazilian record shows that he admitted the fraud to both the police and the shopkeeper.

“I know I screwed up, but I want to pay,” he wrote in a message to the store’s owner on Orkut, a popular social media website in Brazil, in August 2009. “It was always my intention to pay, but I messed up.”

In November 2010, Mr. Santos and his mother appeared before the police, where they both admitted that he was responsible. On Sept. 13, 2011, a Brazilian judge ordered Mr. Santos to respond to the case. Three months later, a court official tried to subpoena him, but he could not be found.

It looks like another pathological liar has been elected.

Why do you think that this fellow thought that he could "embellish" his life story in this way and that no one would care?  Is this a case of embellishment as he claims? He said in the FOX interview that he made a mistake.  How is intentionally misrepresenting your life considered a "mistake"?

It seems to me that this fellow has some substantial mystery around his history, intentions and finances.  He sounds like an untrustworthy fellow.

Grandiose thinking

Reversing "Transgender" health rights is a step in the right direction.  The government should not encourage mental illness and gender dysphoria.  Health insurance companies should not have to foot the bill for elective cosmetic treatments and dangerous hormones.

Civil rights icon as in breaking down barriers in the corporate world for African Americans and handing out loans to African Americans in the 70s when systemic racism actually existed.

It was definitely a relief after seeing Obama push alt left conspiracy theories, create racial division, and promote violence against police.

In regards to Trump and the civil rights act how did he sneer it?  Is this more fake news like people twisting him asking for justice for the Central Park victim into some form of imaginary racism?

It's incredible how successful Asians succeed in this nation considering the marginalization of the community through bigoted policies like Affirmative Action.  The Left just hates to see minorities succeed in this nation as it kills their false and extremely racist narratives regarding things like white "privilege".

Yep.  Asians are not considered a minority because they work hard and succeed and place a huge emphasis on family instead of the thug life.

According to you? That's some pretty interesting reasoning...

More weird reasoning... or are you just trying to inflame people with nonsense? Is that what we could call trolling?

One cannot reason with a bot.  It may even be unreasonable to try to reply to one.
