What caught your attention in the world today?

I came across this is little story today, it's not breaking news.  I suspect that a member of the housekeeping staff knows something about the bomb threat that required the sweep for weapons.

According to police in Secaucus, the bomb threat — which later was determined to be bogus — was called in to Hudson Regional Hospital on July 18. During a search, bomb detection dogs led investigators to an unlocked office closet containing dozens of firearms.

Among the weapons were 11 handguns and 27 rifles or shotguns, according to police. The closet also contained a .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine that was determined to be an assault rifle, and a 14-round high-capacity handgun magazine.

The arrested the guy the next day.

What the heck do you think this guy was doing? It sounds very ominous that he was keeping those weapons there.

Ex-Miami US Rep. David Rivera arrested in Venezuela probe

By JOSHUA GOODMAN and TERRY SPENCER57 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Miami congressman who signed a $50 million consulting contract with Venezuela’s socialist government was arrested Monday on charges of money laundering and representing a foreign government without registering.

David Rivera, a Republican who has been marred by scandals stretching back to his days in Congress from 2011 to 2013, was arrested in Atlanta, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami.

The eight-count indictment alleges Rivera at the start of the Trump administration was part of a conspiracy to lobby on behalf of Venezuela to lower tensions with the U.S., resolve a legal dispute with a U.S. oil company and end U.S. sanctions against the South American nation — all without registering as a foreign agent.

The indictment cites meetings in Washington, New York and Dallas that Rivera either attended or tried to set up for allies of President Nicolas Maduro with U.S. lawmakers and a top aide to former President Donald Trump. To hide the sensitive nature of his work, prosecutors allege Rivera referred to Maduro in chat messages as the “bus driver,” a congressman as “Sombrero” and millions of dollars as “melons.”

There's some evidence that Rubio may be peripherally involved.

The Roberts court will get an opportunity to damage our democracy.

Trump's corrupt and anti American influence is a poison to the GOP and to our democratic republic. We get to watch as the Trump conservatives try to legalize the tools for stealing elections.

Nothing like the Constitution standing in the way of the lefts quest for Federal power.  Amazing how mad libs are when they can’t rule by judicial fiat anymore.

Aside from Mr. Rivera, whe was neither an elected official or appointed official, which Republican officials, either elected or appointed, were identified as unregistered foreign agents?

How exactly did you come to this conclusion?  That there was contact between Mr.Rivera and Mr. Rubio, a longtime friend?

The Supreme Court heard arguments today about a web designer who wants to be able to refuse service to LGTBQ people. Justice Alito thought it was somehow appropriate to joke about Black Santa, Ashley Madison, and black children dressed like KKK:

Your sources seem to miss that the string of rediculous analogies and the discussion that the Alito comments were cherry picked from started with Jackson.

So the mean, black lady made Alito make tasteless jokes? Whatever.

The poor, little web designer who has actually never opened her business is the obvious victim, here. Wah, wah, she wants to discriminate and that mean old Colorado has laws.

I didn't say anything about a "mean, black lady".  Interesting  that's where your mind went.

The jokes were innocolous,  imo.  And the one on audio Illicted laughter.

I made no judgment on the merits of the case.  Just that your post with sources are missing a lot of context.

Anyway, whatever.

AshleyMadison is a dating website aimed at married people. You think joking that another justice might use it is appropriate for the Supreme Court? Yeah, that's a real knee slapper.

Another source that has more context:

• Justice Samuel Alito joking that Justice Elena Kagan might be more familiar than he is with the website AshleyMadison.com, in a hypothetical about professional photographers. Ashley Madison, of course, holds itself out as a meeting place for customers seeking to have extramarital affairs. Alito opened with, “JDate … is a dating service, I gather, for Jewish people … Maybe Justice Kagan will also be familiar with the next website I’m going to mention, AshleyMadison.com …” “I’m not suggesting,” Alito chuckled. “She knows a lot of things.”

• Alito responding to a Ketanji Brown Jackson hypothetical about an all-white Christmas photography package (asking whether it would be discriminatory, which it would be) with his own hypothetical, bizarrely about a Black Santa at the mall who is faced somehow with a child dressed up in a KKK outfit. Alito is trying to probe whether Black Santa should not have to be photographed with the KKK kid: Haha. “If there is a Black Santa at the other end of the mall and he doesn’t want to have his picture taken with a child who is dressed up in a Ku Klux Klan outfit, Black Santa has to do that?” he asked. The spectators laughed uneasily as Alito joked: “You do see a lot of Black children in Ku Klux Klan outfits, right? All the time.” See, if everyone’s dignity and humiliation is hilarious, then nobody’s is serious. Except Lorie Smith’s, apparently.
