What are you carrying all your books in?

Published

I was just wondering what some of you carry your books in to class. Need some ideas on what I should get, I don't think a backpack would be good for my back.

Right now, I'm going into my last semester of pre-reqs, so I'm carrying my books in a regular tote, for the most part. I just have 2 classes right now, and one of those is Hybrid. I'm not sure what I'm going to be carrying my books in once the LPN Program comes along, but I'm going to be looking into some of the ones you guys use! Maybe I won't kill my back. The Zuca brand looks really cute and sturdy, I've been looking up a little bit on them! I've been reading a lot about the standard wheelie backpacks breaking out at the bottom or sides, because of the weight and wear and tear from the books, so I don't think I want to go that route. :D

That is exactly what happened with my last briefcase with wheels. The books were so heavy the bottom sunk down and drug on the ground and that was only for my A and P books. I've also seen some of the nursing students dragging their regular rolling bookbags that had broken on the bottom and were dragging on the ground. I haven't had any problems with the zuca... the frame is nowhere near bending.

Thanks tag! I think that may seal the deal on this being my purchase for holding my books once I'm accepted into the program! It's the one I've liked the most so far, that I've looked in to! I would just hate to be rolling my books and then the bottom fall out or it wear and tear and I have to buy another and possibly another later on down the road, by that time, I may have just went ahead and bought a zuca to last me through the LPN and RN program! :)

A 2001 Dodge Neon...hahahhaha! J/K I only tote the necessities into the school, but bc of how our schedule is I have a crate that stays in the trunk to house our big nursing book and some of our other smaller books just incase I need them for class. Also have one to keep my clinic stuff in so its not all over my car.

But when I do need to do alot of toting I carry a Dakine Rolling bag. Stylish so I can tell if someone is walking away with it and very roomy.

Vera Bradley! So cute yet very durable and machine washable!

I started with a rolling bookbag and it lasted about half of the first semester. Took up too much room and such a hassle. Now I don't bring my books, just myu notebook and binder unless they say otherwise. You don't need to bring all your books with you.

For me, nursing school starts next week, but last semester I took seven classes and had a total of 15 books so I can speak from experience when it comes to carrying a lot of books with me. I use a traditional LL Bean book bag, and if I have too many books, I carry the extras in my arms. I always bring every book to class, and I will always bring every book to class, clinical, and lab during nursing school. You never know what you are going to need, and it never hurts to be prepared. I know that it's murder on the back to carry books in a traditional backpack, but I can't stand the rolling bags.

You won't be able to bring every book to clinical. For one, you don't use your books except maybe a drug guide and a careplan book. For two, they don't have lockers for you. They don't have enough room in there break room for all your books and there not responsible if someone snatches some of your stuff. It's just gone. What some of us did is one person would bring the drug guide, someone else brouht med surge and so on so there area was not taken up.

Most of my nursing school books I never take to class. Even my Med-Surg textbook I mostly use a reference book, at home. There are certain books that I take to clinical... Like a lab book and a drug guide, but those aren't that weighty. I have a really basic L.L. Bean tote bag that's been perfectly fine so far for getting me to and from class.

I have a rolling briefcase from ebags (I love and highly recommend it. Travelpro Executive First Brief) and a Vera Bradley laptop backpack. I plan to lug all of my heavy books in my rolling bag from house to car everyday to begin with. It is my first semester; so I am still figuring out which teachers want you to have what books. It will be nice to have them all with me, just in case. Hopefully, I will only need my laptop and a binder and I can just carry my Vera with me on campus.

I bought a Heys rolling bag in a nice silver tone, picked it up for $18 while other stores sold them for $100.

Our program requires each student to bring their IV drug guide, medication guide, assessment guide, one nursing textbook, notecards, drug cards that we've made, at least one notebook, pens, pencils, paper, care plan book, laboratory value handbook, highlighters, and sharpies. They told us that we would probably have to bring our book bags and store them somewhere. I would love to not have to carry so much to clinical, but that's what our program requires.
