I was just wondering what some of you carry your books in to class. Need some ideas on what I should get, I don't think a backpack would be good for my back.
I have a rolling backpack from eBags that I LOVELOVELOVE. It has a vertical pocket, padded, in the back for a laptop that's COMPLETELY separate from the other pockets, as well as little "strip" pockets on either side of the handle assembly for cords & such (I use one for my umbrella). The main compartment is big enough for my books and notebooks, and a front pocket for pens, personal items, etc.
Now, I've quit carrying my texts with me because I have them in electronic format on my netbook, but I still need a notebook/folder and my care plans/etc. stuff. So there's room now for my lunch bag inside the backpack.
If you're a techie and a student, I haven't found a better bag. It's a bit pricey, but I also got one for my daughter 3 years ago when she started college, and both are in great shape.
I know we can't put links on AN, but if you go to eBags and search for "Router" you should find it.
Has anyone de-spined their textbooks and three hole punched them so they could take whatever chapters they needed that day to school in a binder or w/ rings keeping the pages together, w/o lugging around such heavy texts? I am contemplating this but I wanted to hear from others how that worked for them.Heather
Hey i'm stealing this question from you and starting a thread;) for my pre reqs all of the textbooks were avaliable as either ebooks or as 'unbound' pre punched books. However the book list for my first term has hardbound books only with most of them not even having ebook options!.
@ hmccue, I prefer my books intact....easier to put on the bookshelf(plus looks better ). I actually was given a tone of nursing textbooks when friends and friends of friends found out I was in school for nursing...result= 3 fundies, two peds, w maternal newborn etc texts....my solution....duplicatesbelong in my trunk for access on the go....the ones required by the school stay on my desk @ home.....I only carry a pen, my purse and notebook to class.
Unless the instructor specifically asks us to bring a book to class I don't bring them. All my small chunky books (drug guide, dictionary, lab/diagnostic) stay home. At most I bring my binder, medsurg book and medsurg study guide in a fabric over the shoulder bag. Sometime I bring others but only if I plan on doing some studying during lunch.
I use a ZUCA as well. I really really like it and it has made carrying the heavy heavy books so much easier. And, it is super sturdy which was most important to me. I use this when I bring alot of books for studying before or after class at the library. If I don't plan on using the books, Ill just bring a tote bag (the high sierra beatrice style which I also love) with my binder/notebook in it.
There is no way I am carrying books on my back so it is rollie bookbags all the way for me. :-)
Right now, I’m going into my last semester of pre-reqs, so I’m carrying my books in a regular tote, for the most part. I just have 2 classes right now, and one of those is Hybrid. I’m not sure what I’m going to be carrying my books in once the LPN Program comes along, but I’m going to be looking into some of the ones you guys use! Maybe I won’t kill my back. The Zuca brand looks really cute and sturdy, I've been looking up a little bit on them! I've been reading a lot about the standard wheelie backpacks breaking out at the bottom or sides, because of the weight and wear and tear from the books, so I don't think I want to go that route.

please see my thread about pack mules LOL
seriously my mom bought me an LL Bean pack last year but after getting my 5 inch thick Med/Surg and Fundamentals books I think I'm going to get a rolling pack - there is no way in hell I can carry that much!!!
