What can you tolerate the least?

Nurses General Nursing

I've heard that every nurse has their one thing that they don't like and grosses them out and they don't like dealing with. What is your one thing?

For me it would be vomit! I cannot stand vomit!

I haven't found my kryptonite yet, but I'm brand new to this. So far, non-compliant patients is what I can't tolerate. ;)
Probably more of a home health thing, but it is particularly disgusting to me when the noncompliant behavior of responsible party family members is detrimental to the patient.

That is appropriate per any population.

Found it in other areas besides home health, especially in Peds or any family where there is a vulnerable member, regardless of age.

Sputum...for sure!!! :yuck:

Sputum...for sure!!! :yuck:

oh yeah..trachs, suctioning, anything to do with spit or snot. I once had an evil unruly older woman spit in my face. Ugh. One of my most vile nursing memories.

I'm good with all of the above: urine, emesis, sputum, pus, stool, c-diff, blood. Not great with maggots, but they're okay. What drives me up a wall is alarms (IV, call bell, bed alarm, vent, you name it) that no one addresses, and constant nonsence chatter at the nurses' station. For heavens sake, folks, shut up and do your jobs!!!

Yumpin' Yehosaphat, it's that that pur use uv prownseeiashun.

I can deal with almost anything with 2 exceptions: necrotic smelly wounds and clipping / cleaning someones fingernails.

The worst for me is when someone on a G-tube vomits. "Normal" emesis I can manage. The G-tube (or NG) ugh!

Finger nails... if they are injured and need to bee taken off that is by far the grossest thing ever!!

Things shouldn't come out of mouths. Vomit and thick mucus/sputum gags me. I grab that media basin and walk that thing into the bathroom as fast as humanly possible so the patient doesn't see me gag or dry heave. Plus I can get space from the basin until I gather my courage. I also think tube residuals are so nasty.
