What can I do besides nursing?

Nurses General Nursing

I lost my nursing license in 2015 due to school claiming I did not graduate. I had worked for 8 years as a nurse and loved it. And yes I posted things before. I would just like to know if everthing else fails what would be a good medical profession? I pray I will get license back but is has been 3 years. Please no negative commment I have been through heck. My story was on the news 4 so I am not making this up.

And wait, you graduated but never received a diploma and didn't notice for months or did you not care as long as you took the NCLEX it didn't matter (LOL)?

Exactly. It never occurred to me that I could sit for boards, get licensed, find a job and not have graduated ...kind of like a lot of people responding here thought it wasn't possible.

I didn't go to the graduation ceremony.

They made a mistake but corrected it. However, they're saying she should have never done anything because of Bio 101. That's like a core class and pre-req before certain nursing classes. I'm at a loss as to how that even happened. There's failure on several levels, not a clerical error on the school's part.

My understanding is that the class is a current graduation requirement, but was not a graduation requirement when the OP was supposed to have graduated. Luckily, no new requirements were established before I went seeking my diploma. I suppose I could have found myself in the same situation if they had been.

Now I'm even more confused. If Bio 101 wasn't a requirement during the time she was in school how is it possible she never graduated because of that class? I'm understanding it as she took the class but didn't pass it and that's why they deem she didn't meet the requirements, however I could be wrong. Either way, it's an ugly situation and shouldn't happen to anyone. There's too many questions regarding this. It's their fault, not hers. She's been practicing all these years without cause for concern so why now? This is why there's a shortage. This is ridiculous!

When they discovered that she hadn't graduated, they couldn't process her graduation because new requirements (biology class) had been added and she no longer met the criteria. It was at that time (about two years ago) that she attempted the class so that her graduation could move forward. She failed the class, though.

That's my understanding, at least.

There is no shortage in most places, but I agree that it's crazy to make issue of things after she's been working as a nurse for so many years.

She did complete the entire program and was eligible to graduate at the time. The current nursing director signed off on the paperwork for the school attesting that she had successfully completed the curriculum and the BON accepted that and allowed her to sit for the NCLEX. When she requested her transcripts be transferred to the RN-BSN program in which she was wishing to enroll, the registrar discovered and informed her that she never "officially' graduated since she had never submitted an application for graduation along with the associated fee.

When she first went through the program -- neither the college nor the school of nursing required BIO 101 in order to graduate. It is currently a requirement and as she had never taken the course she would have to take and pass BIO 101 and then submit her application for graduation and pay the fee and she would "officially" graduate.

Since the state BON found out that she never actually graduated, they then required her to fulfill the missing requirements in order to graduate and obtain the actual degree prior to renewing her license. It appears that she attempted to take BIO 101 prior to her license expiring and was not successful with that course.

Now the biggest question would be directed to the state BON... since she didn't fulfill the requirements for graduation prior to her renewal date and they have her on an inactive license. Could she re take BIO 101 - submit the application for graduation - pay the fee - THEN reactive the license?

A troll really? I hope nothing bad ever happens to you. I was a nurse for seven years. This did happen 2 years ago and I am still trying to resolve issue. I took biology and failed was not a requirement when I graduated. I hope no one would ever fake this happening. I hope this happened for a reason. I know God is in control.

But why can't you just retake the Bio101 and then apply again for graduation? If that's the ONLY thing stopping you it just seems like you really trying to resolve the situation.

It may be a case of where the BON told her that she needed to obtain her degree prior to her current license expiring and when she failed the course she missed the deadline. We are not sure if they would even consider reactivating her license if she were to take and pass the course at this time. Just a guess.

Still not cleared up but my license just say they are lapsed. Thank u

Isn't there anything your attorney can do. It makes no sense to take away your license over a technicality. I don't understand why they didn't simply let you pay them the money they claim you owed instead of this dragging out. It is totally unfair. I wish you the best.

If you have given up on nursing, I would suggest either real estate or ultrasound tech. They both require licenses, but the schooling may be obtained in a short time.

Thank you I did retake it and failed the class. I took it online and was under so much stress I did not pass. Image working 7 years at your dream job and having it taken away. It was not a requirement when I graduated. They state I owed a balance first then said I did not feel out paper.

That still sucks because it was their duty to notify you. This whole situation is hateful. Is there a way to take the class at a B&M community college near you? If you pass the class and get an official diploma will they allow you to renew your license?
