What do you call a PA?

Random question but how do you address a PA? Do you call them Mr. or Mrs./Ms. "X" or by their first name or something else? Thanks

I work with NP's and we call them by their first names. I think this is standard for NP's/PA's, but you should find out what they prefer to be called.

I think you need to ask the PA how s/he would wish to be addressed. I would imagine that most would go by first names, but I'd check first just to be polite.

Agree...first name basis...what do the PAs call you?

Depends - might ask. I'm NP and addressed, "Ms. (last name)

I'm a CNS and I'm addressed by my first name. However, I am usually introduced by both first and last name and that is how I identify myself when I call in when paged.

Whatever you call em', it's not "Dr."!! There are PA's at our clinics who do not introduce themselves that way but they don't discourage the pts when they are called that.

As in most situations I believe it would depend on how they address you. your age, their age, what you wish to be called, what they wish to be called. And then there is hospital policy. When I was younger I wanted to fit in and be called by my first name. As I have aged I am beginning to think Mr/Ms is more appropriate until one is more familiar with the person.

On the cardiac surgery pcu floor i just left last week there was one PA who we dealt with all the time, every day, and a few others in teh group we'd see fairly often but not every day. All of them were on a first name basis with us. THey'd call us our first name, we'd call them first name. worked well. got along with them a LOT better htan with hte surgeons!

I call everyone by their first name. Just ask the PA!

Does anyone say "This is Nurse Smith?" OR do you ever hear "Paging Nurse Smith?" I know that may sound dumb, but I have been in hospitals where the patient calls you "Nurse! Nurse!" Or the family member will say something like "Honey, this is Nurse Smith. She has been taking care of me."

Oh.. and while I am here.. I will ask.. if you have a BS and then you get a BSN, how do you write that?

Is that right?? thank you!!! E :roll
