Specializes in ER.

I am still in NP school, I am just thinking ahead. In your opinion what is the best NP job that you have seen? Whether it's traveling or 3 12hr shifts. I have heard of a 7 days on 7 days off thing that sound pretty good.

Locums/ travel NP work. But I worked a perm ER NP job 2 years before I felt confident to fly :) good luck!

Specializes in burn ICU, SICU, ER, Trauma Rapid Response.

NP for the US Embassy in the Philippines. Easy work with a bunch or pretty healthy people to look after, Decent pay, government pension. In that economy he could afford a maid, cook, gardner and live in a beautiful cottage. Step out the front door, walk across the lawn to a beautiful, private white sand beach and warm blue water.

This sounds exciting and i will like to follow your path. I am set to fnish fnp school in december? what do i need to do to work in ER, books, websites, certifcation or any advice you may have. Thanks.

Specializes in ACNP-BC, Adult Critical Care, Cardiology.

Wait, the US Embassy in the Philippines is in Manila along a palm-tree lined boulevard facing Manila Bay, picturesque? yes, polluted and crowded? for sure. But I would agree that with the cost of living and US standard salary, that is a sweet deal but he'll have to live pretty close to the embassy where all the coastline has been damaged by pollution.

Specializes in Adult Internal Medicine.

I love my job, couldn't imagine anything better.

Mix of inpatient and outpatient. Challenging multi morbidity panel. Four 8 hour days. Make my own schedule if I want to take time off. Full profit sharing with my colleague.

Specializes in Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergy.

There is no single best NP job. The best job is the one that's the best fit for you. Sometimes you have to see the opportunities and use your job as a platform to get to where you want to be. You may not have a lot of choices straight out of school for where you work. You have to take what's available and appreciate any opportunity that comes your way. Even the "worst" job can become the best one if you focus on excellence and patient care rather than the job perks.

This is my dream job. My wife is a Fil-Am, and with an NP salary over there you would live like a king. Although I prefer the visayas to Manila, it would be sweet none the less.

Specialty areas tend to be the highest paying. I work for myself in my own business and do all cash clients. I perform anti-aging treatments like bio-identical hormones, botox, dermal fillers and practice holistic/functional medicine using herbs and alternative treatments combined with traditional medicine. I LOVE my job because I am actually helping people and not just throwing pills at their symptoms. I get to the root of their problem and take the whole body into account, never compartmentalizing one system. I regularly make $800-$1000/day after expenses. I only work a few days a week and love the flexibility to work when I want to. I also teach aesthetics a few days a month and can make anywhere from $800-$1500 a day. Mind you this is not full time work, I could grow my practice into 5 days a week and make more money but it has taken a decade of work and training to get to this point. I did not walk into it overnight. My friends who were new grads and went into the ER made the big bucks right out of school, with overtime they get $120/hr!! Plus benefits, etc. I have to pay all my own healthcare, etc. No one pays me for holiday pay, overtime, etc. But my job is not stressful, people are happy and I really am making a difference which is what it's all about!:)

BChapp ..Sounds great , this is the area I would like to go into holistic/functional medicine combined with traditional medicine. What part of the country are you in? thanks

Specializes in FNP, ONP.
PMFB-RN wins. The US Foreign Service recruited at my school and I would have considered it, but I was already too old by the time I graduated. I earn enough money to vacation anywhere I want to go, but that isn't the same as living the dream every day!
