  1. Take whatever you need to respond to any "yes" on your profile. Keep it short & sweet, MEPs is not the PCP office. Less is more. They need to know what active medical problems you may have.
  2. An act of kindness done unkind leaves a sting behind. Please do what you can on your shift and I do my best on my shift. Attitude is everything! Keep smiling nurse friends, after 14 years I bring in my own charmin toilet paper for staff and patients. It brings a smile to all involved to have the triple layer fluffy stuff available including my tax guy when I claim it as a work related expense. 6.99 a month x 12. It's a a charitable donation as well :)
  3. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner here. It's not impossible to go the route your considering. My background was critical care and I would recommend strengthening your ACLS/ATLS as well as completing a FCCS course. A lot of my job is ventilator management and invasive procedures/ Central line placement. Not sure you would get this on a Hospitalist Service. I work primarily with Intensivists and Pulmonary Critical Care docs.
  4. My background=civilian critical care transport flight nurse. Some nurses can do ACLS/ATLS on the ground. I choose 35,000 feet. I'm a fly girl at heart. Find your passion and go for your dreams. Never stop achieving! :)

  6. Be proud to be entering the nursing profession. Smile politely, nod and walk away from negativity. Maintaining adequate ventilation and hemodynamics of a critically ill human in flight is not for everyone. The weight of someone's attitude does not fit into my calculations for this mission or my job.

  8. Global World is correct. I'm new to all nurses and been practicing NP long enough to know my core values to my country and our profession. Diversity is appreciated and my eyes have been opened reading the responses here. Thank you for helping me continue to learn.
  9. Have you thought about the US AirForce Flight Nurses who were dispatched out of their service unit to go to accept report from receiving facility and transport the 2 patients back to the US? Seriously...these nurses are under federal presidential orders to perform the functions of their jobs and should be treated with the utmost respect. Please, think about all sides of the issue. Civilian nursing jobs can refuse report, enlisted government occupations do not. Praying for all those involved.
  10. Totally agree. Anyone who works for an entity which has a badge stamped "Property of US Government," knows the policies and procedures in place which govern "one's use of social media." Use caution nurse friends :)

  12. Best wishes to you in the field. I spent my first 2 years of NP work flying with an ER MD "learning the ropes." Despite having 6 years RN experience in critical care. Just sharing is there is a huge leap of clinical experience going from RN to NP, novice to proficient. Don't underestimate this curve. My friends in retail health have had some "serious" conditions present that required emergent transport to nearest facility. Think this over and request the additional training time if needed. It's not all bee stings and viral fevers out there. :) blessings.
  13. The hours listed on the "employment agreement" are productive patient care hours. Example I see patients at 123 Main Street Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8-5. Compensated at 24 hours a week. Tuesday and Thursday I am still working from my home office, dedicated solely for that use. I use a laptop on a remote server to clock in and perform administrative work. Many businesses consider telecommuting/work from home into the position description.
