  1. Today I was in class, waiting for my exam results, and one of my instructors was going over patient workups and lab sheets etc. that we would be doing in clinicals. It terrified me. She was asking questions about normal wbc counts and using nursing diagnosis, and general lab questions. I know this is my (soon to be) profession, but I don't even know where to begin. I have no healthcare experience, and am basically starting from the drawing board. Does anyone have any advice, or specific things to share before I enter into a clinical setting.. With live human beings.. All input is appreciated!
  2. Thank you all for the positive feedback! I'm glad to hear that the opinions I have received (before posting this feed) are not widely shared. While my heart knows that I should be a nurse, it helps to hear that this is worthwhile. I was beginning to feel like I am condemning myself to a career of no appreciation
  3. People that I know, and some family members
  4. Thank you for your responses! As having nursing as your career, do you personally feel that you are held in high regard?
  5. I am about to begin nursing school in a few weeks, and everywhere I turn I feel like I hear a bunch of negativity towards nurses. It seems like nurses are the bottom of the food chain, but is that really true? People keep saying to me, "why would you only want to be a nurse?" - like it's a bad thing. I realize that you have to earn your own respect, and that it isn't easy. Maybe it's just a mix of media and too many fears swimming through my head. Are nurses really as disrespected and disliked as everyone makes it sound?
  6. Thank you!
  7. Hello! I begin my first semester of nursing school this August! I am looking for some advice on what I should brush up on, or just general advice. I am twenty, this is my first time applying, and first time being accepted. I am thrilled, but terrified! Thank you in advance for any input!
  8. Does anyone have any input or knowledge on this school? It has a lot of pro's for me, I'd like to hear what others have to say about it though. Thanks!
  9. Thanks, I will certainly look deeper into Chamberlain! Currently, I am in Coffeyville, but I am from the Wichita area. I have looked around some in the KCMO area, but the pre reqs that I have, and those required, aren't lining up very well.
  10. Thank you for all of the responses!
  11. Is it possible to get accepted into a program without taking all of the pre-reqs? Or by taking a course that's similar. For example, I am taking Fundamentals of Chemistry, rather than Chemistry 101. Are programs very stern in their requirements?
  12. I am 19, about to graduate with my Associate's in Science from a community college in KS. I know that I do not want to transfer to a university here, because Kansas is not in the Nursing Licensure Compact. This matters to me because I intend on doing travel nursing for a while. I am looking to get my BSN, in a state that is in the compact. Does anyone have any school suggestions? I have been looking at Chamberlain in Pheonix, but I am leery of their program. Also, I always have those few classes that I am missing to meet the requirements of programs I've looked at. Is that flexible in any way, or do I have to have the exact criteria? Thanks
