  1. Take whatever you need to respond to any "yes" on your profile. Keep it short & sweet, MEPs is not the PCP office. Less is more. They need to know what active medical problems you may have.
  2. An act of kindness done unkind leaves a sting behind. Please do what you can on your shift and I do my best on my shift. Attitude is everything! Keep smiling nurse friends, after 14 years I bring in my own charmin toilet paper for staff and patients. It brings a smile to all involved to have the triple layer fluffy stuff available including my tax guy when I claim it as a work related expense. 6.99 a month x 12. It's a a charitable donation as well :)
  3. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner here. It's not impossible to go the route your considering. My background was critical care and I would recommend strengthening your ACLS/ATLS as well as completing a FCCS course. A lot of my job is ventilator management and invasive procedures/ Central line placement. Not sure you would get this on a Hospitalist Service. I work primarily with Intensivists and Pulmonary Critical Care docs.
  4. My background=civilian critical care transport flight nurse. Some nurses can do ACLS/ATLS on the ground. I choose 35,000 feet. I'm a fly girl at heart. Find your passion and go for your dreams. Never stop achieving! :)
  5. Wishing everyone all the best! May you achieve your dreams in USAF :)
  6. Be proud to be entering the nursing profession. Smile politely, nod and walk away from negativity. Maintaining adequate ventilation and hemodynamics of a critically ill human in flight is not for everyone. The weight of someone's attitude does not fit into my calculations for this mission or my job.
  7. Thanks flyingScot. I may close my account now and re enter as FlyGirl1977
  8. Global World is correct. I'm new to all nurses and been practicing NP long enough to know my core values to my country and our profession. Diversity is appreciated and my eyes have been opened reading the responses here. Thank you for helping me continue to learn.
  9. Have you thought about the US AirForce Flight Nurses who were dispatched out of their service unit to go to accept report from receiving facility and transport the 2 patients back to the US? Seriously...these nurses are under federal presidential orders to perform the functions of their jobs and should be treated with the utmost respect. Please, think about all sides of the issue. Civilian nursing jobs can refuse report, enlisted government occupations do not. Praying for all those involved.
  10. Totally agree. Anyone who works for an entity which has a badge stamped "Property of US Government," knows the policies and procedures in place which govern "one's use of social media." Use caution nurse friends :)
  11. Facebook=personal me Linked In=professional me It all depends on how you plan to achieve balance in your life. To each their own. Best wishes for a healthy, happy and rewarding career. under my white cape/ blue paper pad is the true super hero :)
  12. Best wishes to you in the field. I spent my first 2 years of NP work flying with an ER MD "learning the ropes." Despite having 6 years RN experience in critical care. Just sharing is there is a huge leap of clinical experience going from RN to NP, novice to proficient. Don't underestimate this curve. My friends in retail health have had some "serious" conditions present that required emergent transport to nearest facility. Think this over and request the additional training time if needed. It's not all bee stings and viral fevers out there. :) blessings.
  13. The hours listed on the "employment agreement" are productive patient care hours. Example I see patients at 123 Main Street Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8-5. Compensated at 24 hours a week. Tuesday and Thursday I am still working from my home office, dedicated solely for that use. I use a laptop on a remote server to clock in and perform administrative work. Many businesses consider telecommuting/work from home into the position description.
  14. It is grey area. I've done it both ways as a travel NP doing Locums work. Keep all your receipts and document your expenses for 1099. Good luck!
  15. Private practice here...remember patients are clients. 4 years concierge medicine and it's all in the delivery and patient perception :) Mr Anthony Jones, pleasant 41 year old overly nourished male attends our office today for follow-up of hypertension and hyperlipemia. BMI of 38, attempts of calorie reduction mildly unsuccessful. Education provided. i dictate in front of my patient to save time using dragon voice software. I then ask them if I forgot anything about our visit today as this is part of their medical record and it should reflect all our "hard work" we are accomplishing together towards better health. Very few complaints here using this system.
  16. Awe, this post really melted my heart. Thanks for sharing as it brought back so many memories of my testing experience in 2005. I was a bit old school and took the CDs and recorded them on audio tapes. I relistened to them several times thinking they should have an iTunes version :) best wishes to All in your NP career
  17. Locums/ travel NP work. But I worked a perm ER NP job 2 years before I felt confident to fly :) good luck!
  18. Currently on east coast, love to surf. First patient is at 10am, lol. So most days I get the high tide waves. Clinic is 1 block from beach. Never use my personal vehicle, would not suggest it. Too much of a headache. Your recruiter should arrange everything for you. Work hard, play hard. My jeep liberty is from Avis. I have an AWD # which allows upgrades wherever I go. Per diem money is important. After this contract in October I will be going to Colorado, time to Ski/Snowboard. My next vehicle Nissan Armada, need 5 bedroom. Want family to join me for Christmas, saving up now :)
  19. Used Aureus Medical Group and most recently StaffCare AMN HealthCare. Depends on where you want to go and what contracts you are interested in. Indian Health Service in Northern Arizona was my favorite. Great people, housing was a Hilton Honors Suite and my rental car new and awesome. I extended that contract for almost a year. Have Fun!
  20. Love it. Worked a perm position in ER level 1 for 2 years before signing up. Each contract gets better with time. My company has been very good with car and housing upgrades. I've seen a lot of the east and west coast, focus on patients not politics. Pick a new destination every 13 weeks. My top year made 155k :)
  21. Did a short term 8week Locums contract for psych NP that was on maternity leave. Made a good amount of money, glad I tried it. Will never go back. Not for me. I'm an acute care nurse practitioner. Try to shadow that field if you really want it then go for it. 10 years as an NP, I know I could fill in as a "med management" person but never desire it as long term perm job.
