  1. Thanks for the reply Boston FNP, i'm not sure if going back to school for an additional 2 years is beneficial in my current situation but it seems thats the best/ only? option chouxpastry, what are your plan?
  2. Are there any alternatives to going back to school for an additional 2 semesters? The only post-mastes ACNP i see requires classes that are redundant to my current classes.
  3. Los Angeles, started working as an RN early 2012 for $32, now making $40 per hr day shift. Currently a student FNP but received a soft verbal offer from my preceptor for $90k to work in a clinic though i would like to work in a hospital.
  4. This sounds exciting and i will like to follow your path. I am set to fnish fnp school in december? what do i need to do to work in ER, books, websites, certifcation or any advice you may have. Thanks.
  5. I am an FNP student living in los angeles, ca. I am set to graduate early next year. My only aspiration currently is to work in an acute care setting such as ER or ICU as i find clinic work to be boring and would like to work 3 12hr shifts. My program focuses almost exclusively on practicing in a clinic setting and as such i feel unprepared to work in a hospital. How would i increase my chances of landing a job in acute care setting? what certifications should i obtain? What books should i read to better prepare myself?
  6. Thanks for all the reply, suggested that pharmacy might be a good field for him and i think he is considering that, but others also seem to have made good suggestion but unfortunately i do not understand most of the acronym or abbrevations used so i'll have him read this board. So thanks to all who responded. But, i also want to ask which field pays relatively well and isn't too competitive as in school and finding a job. It needs to be a field where it is easy to transition from a BSN such as pharmacy. I'm asking this question for myself because im 19 and in my first year of a BSN progam and would like eventually do a master's. I have volunteered at various hospitals and i do like nursing but i doubt i would like to do for the rest of life. Thanks to all
  7. well i think nursing is not his thing because he doesnt like the stress of bedside nursing, he constantly have to check on patients, walk up and down the floor and he just doesnt like the setting i guess... And by a job related to nursing, it simply means a field that stays in the health field but does not deal with floor work, since he dreads that. im not exactly sure what he wants to do but im sure the only reason he doesnt like working in the hospital has a nurse is because it is stressful for him...am a first year nursing student as well so any information will be great
  8. So i have a friend who has been working as nurse at kaiser for about 3 months now and he discovers that nursing is not his thing and is now considering doing a masters in a related field. What do you suggest he does his masters in. He wants something that he can go straight into and not have to complete too many pre-req classes. Staying in the health field is preferred but will accept any suggestions. Salary need to be comparable to a job with masters in nursing. What do you guys suggest?
  9. i thought about doing that but i didnt want to spend an extra year in school doing rn to bsn. So there aren't any popular grants or relatively easy to get scholarships out there?
  10. i have tried that website but it doesnt seem to help. Does anybody know something about loan forgiveness? how does that work or any other government grant? grants seem to be my best bet or any scholarship or grant specific to nursing?
  11. Im not sure where this schould go but i'll post it here. I am currently in a BSN program, this is my first semester. I am in a private school and tuition and book costs are just too much, over 25 thousand per year for a 3 year program. I was wondering what grant and/or scholarships i could apply for. I am a black male students living in california, in a city not too far from los angeles. And i come from a disadvantaged family. Im sure there are lots of grants/scholarships out there but i cant seem to find them. My school financial aid people aren't helping either. Any help appreciated, thanks.
