What is the best computer to have for school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Just want to know what you guys are using... Im looking to get a Macbook what do you guys think?

I love my little Samsung NP305. The best thing about it, is it's tiny size (under 3 lbs.). I am in nursing school right now and some of my classes are in traditional rooms with tiny desks or auditoriums with pull out half desktops. Most of the other students struggle with the size of their computers. Plus, I didn't want to carry alot of weight. I think my binder containing all my notes weighs more than my laptop which holds all my books. I would consider weight and size and look at the structure itself. How portable and sturdy does it look? When I need more screen space I go home and connect my computer through an HDMI cable to my 52 inch Plasma TV. This works great for the podcasts and videos I have to watch. Plus I can put it in the "extended desktop" mode and have different windows open on my TV then I have on my laptop (does Mac have that function?) So I often have my book on the tv and a word document open on my laptop so I can type notes from the text. Sounds a little nerdy, but it works great for me.

I've had a Macbook Air since early last year. I've dragged it all over the place -- it's much more rugged than my old plastic-and-magnesium-alloy Sony laptop, which cost a lot, but was built like junk. I just brought the Macbook Air into the Apple Store yesterday (there are no HP stores, and good luck getting anything fixed by Sony), because the battery didn't seem to be holding a good charge. Even though the machine was out of warranty, they replaced the battery at the Apple Store while I waited, free of charge.

I now have a brand-new battery. Free.

There are new Windows ultrabooks, but most of the affordable Windows machines are like bricks. If you're carrying it around all day, two or three more pounds makes a big difference. By the way, the 15" Mackbook is like a brick as well.

I am on my second Toshiba Satellite, and I love it! I also have an iPad 2, but my laptop has a keyboard and is much easier to type on it. I am debating on getting a keyboard cover for the iPad, but I haven't decided yet. The laptop is wonderful, as it still runs just fine even though I have dropped it multiple times and have carried it from place to place in a laptop bag.

I'd never buy an HP solely due to all the additional junkware ("pre-installed software") that comes on it...that you can't delete!

i've had a bad experience with my iphone therefore that put me in a bad place with apple products. those people won't get another nickel from me. lol i'm going to look into getting an hp.

i have an hp with 'heating issues.' bought a fan for it, but one of my children accidentally dropped the fan...needless to say, i would like to get another one, but at this moment i'm not sure what model my hp laptop is. i will post back later. the heat comes out of the bottom of the laptop. i don't sit it on furniture or any bedding, as it will get too hot.

i would recommend getting a toshiba because of the heating issues with hp laptops. i was 'advised' by someone @ ivy tech a while back that hp laptops had these types of issues, but i evidently didn't heed his warning...lol

good luck in whatever you decide!

I have a MacBook and it's great, but I hate lugging it around. thinking about getting a tablet system for school stuff - taking notes on powerpoints, reading pdfs & c. Any suggestions or experience with these?

I personally have a Macbook Air and I love it. I had a Macbook before and I really appreciate how lightweight the Air is comparatively. Nice to stick in my backpack when I go to the library to study. The only drawback is it doesn't have a disc drive, but I haven't had any issues with needing a disc drive for school.

I have laptop but I don't carry it to class. In my school there is computers so I use those when I need to. I also have Samsung tablet 10.1 and I take to class to record lectures, look at power points and to read my ebooks. Its been a lifesaver and well spent money on.

If I was to purchase a laptop for school I would go with a Chromebook to be honest. The things are cheap and they are pretty much exclusively meant to be used for internet and documents and stuff.
