  1. I withdrew from A&P I this past spring semester because of this reason. The instructor was too vague in what she wanted, esp. at test time, and if I continue with my pre-nursing coursework, I will take Biology 100 (intro) and then A&P sometime after that. However, I dropped 2 classes this fall and only taking 2 @ Ivy Tech: Algebra II and English Composition. I needed to slow things down and take my time; this is going to be a long process/adventure anyway. Good luck with your endeavors!
  2. Update: 7/27/2012 I have an 'A' in my Women's Issues online class at Ivy Tech last time I checked, and I'm wavering between a C and a B in the online Psyc 101 class. I was having quite a time submitting the correct paper in Psych yesterday (evidently). I met with the financial aid office yesterday with my appeal paperwork, as I had been put on a financial aid warning. The lady told me to hold onto the paperwork, as this moment in time I have not officially been listed as 'terminated.' She said to call her around August 6 to see my status. Meanwhile, I have not done well on the Psych exams; they cover 3 chapters, and I don't know how to study for them. If I pass the class with a C, I will be happy. I don't plan on retaking it should I continue my college endeavors. I am currently in the process of job hunting, as I am in medical debt, as well as college and misc. debt, and my children need orthodontics, with my daughter, the oldest child, being first in line. If I don't find employment before the fall semester starts and the college lets me have financial aid, I have English Composition and Algebra II lined up for the fall.
  3. i can't stop laughing at this suggestion! now i'll never get to sleep tonight! lol:lol2:
  4. just wanted to update: i am on a financial aid warning at college due to the fact that i withdrew from 2 classes and didn't pass psych 101. i'm retaking psyc 101 online this summer, however, and have a 'b' at this moment. i am currently in the process of job hunting because i'm in a lot of medical debt, and my kids need orthodontics, esp. my oldest, a daughter (she has an anterior crossbite). anyhoo, i may be headed back to college in august if the college lets me continue w/financial aid and if i don't have any job leads close to the college start date of august 20.
  5. another good resource is danica mckellar's books: math doesn't suck kiss my math: showing pre algebra who's boss and hot x: algebra exposed kissmymath.com is one of the urls there are links on the site(s) that relate to sample problems in her book(s).
  6. if i am back at ivy tech this fall l(been put on financial aid warning due to w/d from 2 classes and not passing f2f psyc 101), i will be utilizing salman khan's website to get the math/algebra concepts flowing back in the ole brain...lol
  7. I'd like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent person. We all know it takes time, perseverance, etc. to make things happen. With that being said, I often wonder if I am "smart enough to be a nurse." Only time will tell. LOL It's easy to find oneself in a bit of funk, so to speak, with all the challenges that colleges throw at us. I've been out of high school for over 20 years and wonder daily if I'm up to the challenge of these pre-requisite courses. I just keep plugging away. A lot of this stems from the idea that we have to have confidence in ourselves or nobody else will. Just my 2 cents...
  8. i strongly encourage you to check out salman khan's website, http://www.khanacademy.org he has videos covering all math subjects imaginable. what's nice about his videos, or any youtube videos for that matter, is that a person can pause, hit play, etc. as many times as needed in order to get the concepts. hope this helps! p.s. i'm 43 and graduated in 1987. i never took algebra in high school but did take the first algebra class last fall @ ivy tech and made a "c" but withdrew from my 2nd algebra class this spring semester but am planning on retaking it 3 days a week this fall at a different campus. good luck!
  9. [color=#808080]yes, it's impossible to write every single word heard. i have a friend, who, in ma school, tried writing everything she heard down, filling up her notebook rather quickly. however, i think she had difficulty trying to study it all...
  10. I tried using a digital recorder while in medical assisting school, but one annoyance I discovered was when I accidentally hit the "Play" button while in class = embarrassing! I'm sure that, for some people, it's a great learning tool and for others, they may do better with a different learning style. If the instructor allows it, I would try it and see how it works but always have a backup plan (i.e. take good notes). Hope this helps!
  11. These questions definitely are tricky! I took 2 practice NCLEX quizzes online a while back. I scored "half right" and "half wrong" on one of them, but I didn't think it was too shabby for not having gone through an actual nursing program, let alone taking any pre-requisite courses. However, if/when I trudge through my program and get to that point, I would, of course, have studied like a tyrant beforehand...
  12. At this point in time, I think working in the OR, ER, or as a home health nurse would be interesting...
  13. do you have children? are they interrupting you?! if so, i have the same problem! if i have to, i'd go to an ivy tech satellite location and work on homework, but so far i haven't had to resort to that. i am only allotted 1 hour at the public library, and that's not enough time to do what i need to do... good luck!
  14. at present i'm re-taking psychology 101, a pre req course, online at ivy tech and currently have an 'a' in the class which i am very happy about! i have a high 'b' in my online women's issues class (had to pick something doable re: receiving federal loan $$...) i had been hesitant about taking any online courses because i'm not very disciplined. however, taking these online classes has made me disciplined which is a good thing. a person has to "get the feel" for what his/her instructor wants. a lot of the work involves participating in discussion board posts for these classes. the women's issues class that i'm taking involves db posts as well as writing a few (research) papers. good luck in your courses!
