  1. That would be so much worse lol, but I do know as someone with an anxiety disorder I would have been very bothered too :)
  2. It's an interesting article, and definitely something to keep in mind. However I cannot help but feel a little irked by all the appeal to authority that is being used (a logical fallacy). That isn't to say they aren't correct, however there are probably a lot of other hats to be thrown into the ring research wise, but the info presented here is still worth considering but so isn't the other side.
  3. Course, if you have an anxiety disorder and are a wee bit if a germaphobe then something like drinking someone else's water can cause a bit of mental anguish despite your knowledge of the situation.
  4. I actually live about ten minutes away from Castleton State College and am taking my prerequisites at the Community College of Vermont, however I have plans to get my ASN from Vermont Technical College because I plan to do some debt reduction between degrees and stuff however I will probably get my BSN from CSC when the time comes. In regards to what type of nursing I also want to do Psych nursing and I'm thinking that after I officially become a LNA I will be applying to work part time in addition to my other job at a local mental health facility that I see is always looking for LNA's. Hopefully I will be able to stick around long enough so that when I get my LPN after my first year of VTC I can get a full time job at that facility, so those are my basic plans right now.
  5. Man, I wish I was a NP right now lol. I'm actually just starting my journey into the nursing career and am working on becoming a LNA and start my prerequisites in the summer. I have to agree with you tho that it is discouraging that our state does not have many programs. Heck there is only one brick and mortar BSN program in our state, and they no longer offer an ASN (Castleton State College) VTC is the only college in the state (or one of only a few) that offers ASN (I think Norwich has a nursing program tho...I haven't looked into it because I'm not going to kid myself about getting in that place lol) Anyways, good luck with whatever you set out to do, sadly nothing in this life comes cheap anymore and it just might be a pill that will have to be swallowed.
  6. Well the University of Vermont which is our states medical college is actually a very well respected university that I think she should pursue. University of Vermont College of Medicine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  7. Sweet! a fellow Vermonter! I don't know where in Vermont you are situated but perhaps the job outlook might be better in New York or New Hampshire? Also, I don't think if you become a FNP you will be required to work with Children. I mean FNP's are in all sorts of different departments and such. Even the Nursing Home where I am at his its own Nurse Practitioner and she obviously doesn't deal with Children here. However like all things, its something that has to be worked at perhaps you could become a FNP and slowly work your way into the WH? I know that I want to be a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and I am going to have to take as many step (as small or big as needed) to start heading in that direction. Good luck.
  8. I would wear business attire to a job interview, and if there really is an opportunity to job shadow on the same day of the interview you could possibly bring a pair of scrubs to change into if the opportunity arises.
  9. Well in my state we are licensed and have to renew our license every two years. However it is my understanding that if you accepted a patient then it would be patient abandonment.
  10. *scratches head* I always thought the NP route was phasing out MSN, but I honestly don't know...if I'm right (trying to think back to what I read) I would just go straight for NP.
  11. I'm not sure what the other options are but you could always look into starting off as an EMR, the course would be far less rigorous and it would get you inn the right direction :) I don't plan to be a flight nurse, I actually whant to eventually be a psych NP, but I still plan to eventually get EMT certified, which I plan to do as a progression starting with emergency first responder certification. Good luck .
  12. I think you are right, what they specialize in ends up being determined by the residency they choose.
  13. It is very true that PA's are truly generalists, however I thought they could also specialize? the most popular being Surgical I thought.
  14. Also don't forget that PA school takes about 2 years and most schools either highly discourage working while enrolled or outright forbid it. So there is the reality that you might have to find a way to do two years of very demanding school work while unemployed.
