What are the best BLACK PENS

I am new to this forum and nursing school. Just wanted to know what are the best pens to purchase. Please, I need as many responses as possible so I can try them all and decide.

THANKS :)

I too am a PEN FIEND!!!! I have dozens if not hundreds of pens, (I get 75 $ from VA every semester for supplies), anyway, I used to LOVE the Pilot G2, but they do tend to smear unless writing on plain paper. I've since starting using the Dr. Grip Pro, love em so much, But am going to try these Zebra's I keep hearing about. Thanks

I like BIC Pro+ or Pentel RSVP (the retractable model) best. Uni-ball Jetstream RT is my second choice.

I'm a pen addict. I have to try them all. ;)

OK...Staples will now love me forever. :lol2: I had a little pen shopping spree based on everyone's suggestions. Here are my (revised) favorites:

Zebra F-301 (ballpoint)

BIC Pro+ (ballpoint)

Uni-ball Jetstream RT (rollerball)

I had never even noticed/heard of the Zebra pens before I read this thread. I love it! For a ballpoint, it writes remarkably smooth. If they could just combine the comfortable feel of the BIC Pro+ with the fine point and smoothness of the Zebra, I think it would be the perfect pen. The only complaint I have about the Zebras is that the ink is a little light. But I can live with it...

Of course, as I mentioned before, I love the Jetstream RT. So easy to write with and it never smears. Nice dark ink. No complaints here! Also love the BIC Pro+.

My reevaluation of pens has confirmed that I HATE gel pens. The ink always stops and then starts. Stop, starts. I can't get them to write consistently for some reason. Rollerballs or ballpoints for me.

I'm starting nursing school this August and I know there's a lot of note taking ahead of me :)

I was wondering what kind of pens (that are at least medium point) are good for someone who really presses hard on their pen? I know that's worded weird. I don't like cheap pens because I press down too hard on them to get the ink out and they hurt my hands within minutes. I like ones that write VERY easily like gel pens... or any kind that write easily. Any suggestions?

Okay, taking some of y'alls advice I went and bought a few different kinds of pens, some cheap and others moderate (never the type to buy more than a moderate price).

The cheap BIC gel pens... they write good and are easy on your hands, but they DONT LAST LONG!! And not just because they're gel. They're like super sensitive to to gravity. I mean, if you even look at them wrong, the ink won't come out. I've tried every type of resuscitation on these pens to make them work again.. but I always end up having to get another one out of the bag and that makes it totally pointless and a waste.

Then I got regular BIC pens (no gel ink) and they write every time, but as I said earlier, I press down WAY TOO HARD on my pens and these aren't very forgiving of that. Even with grips, I don't like these. Good clinical pens to pass out to nurses who forget to give them back.

Then I bought a value pack of Zebra Orbitz... a nice fat pen with a cushiony grip. It sometimes writes kind of scratchy instead of smooth, but for the price it came with about 6 of them and 3 refills. Not too bad, but not my absolute favorite.

Then, the Pilot G2 gel pen in bold.... I love these pens :) Write great, and they're not too expensive and neither is their ink. These are by far my favorite.

THEN, as far as a non-gel pen favorite... I lOVE Zebra Twilight. I would rather have gel, but these are funky cute pens that write all the time for me without giving me grief :)

Try the Uni-ball Jetstream RT (retractable), if you haven't already.

I just did a little test for you with it (pressed down super hard, probably much harder than you actually press) and wrote for a couple of minutes and the ink never stopped. I love these pens so much.

Try the 402....it's a little thicker barrel with a rubber grip.

I tried a new one from the bookstore yesterday. Pentel RSVP. It's a nice, simple, nongel pen that writes incredibly smooth. I'm a very picky pen user and I give it a thumbs up;)

pilot g2 fine point

I bought what I believe will be the perfect pen for clinicals today. It's a PaperMate PhD Multi. It has red and black ink and a pencil - all in one, and it's exactly what my syllabus says I need! Woo hoo!
