Hello, I had gotten an associates degree in pre-nursing from Malcolm X College a Community College in Chicago back in 2016. Took all my core nursing science classes in 2013/2014. Took a year break in 2015. At the time I was hoping to continue my education at UIC to earn my BSN in 2016 after graduation. Due to my finances at the time I couldn't afford UIC or other colleges at the time. Now it's 2025 and I'm being told although I have a degree all my core science classes will have to be re-taken at each university I have looked into. If I want to do their BSN Programs. To make a long story short my question is can I go to an LPN School then go back to the university and earn my BSN with all my previous college credits? The whole point in doing this would be to bypass retaking all my science classes because at this point I would already be a nurse and their requirements were to re-take them to enter their BSN Program. Would I still have to re-take the science classes even though I'd be an LPN seeking my BSN at that point? Even though I already have an associates that covered all the prereqs that most schools require for their nursing program. I'm also confused because I see a lot of RN-to-BSN programs and nothing for an LPN seeking a BSN. I never thought I'd have to go about it this way and, I feel as though I'm taking two steps back. I hope you all understand what I'm asking and I'm seeking well-informed advice, wisdom, knowledge, and guidance.

I am sorry you are finding yourself in this situation, unfortunately most nursing programs require that science courses be taken within 5 years. This has been a policy as far back as when I started nursing school in 2010.
LPN to RN Bridge programs will offer a diploma/associates in nursing at local community colleges that you can then go for an RN to BSN program at a local 4 year school. I hope that helps a bit, best of luck.

Yeah most colleges have that 5 year stipulation. And unfortunately even if you complete a LPN program prior to going back to a BSN program you will still have to fall within the 5 year period for your science courses.

Private schools cost more but some have no restrictions on the age of your science classes long as you passed with a C or better and taken in some cases pathophysiology and pharmacology classes and have work experience in medical field. Hope you were able to get into a RN bridge program .
