WGU Prelicensure Program SoCal-Sept 2016 Cohort

Published

Hello everyone. Just thought I would start a thread for those thinking about applying into WGU Prelicensure BSN program for the Sept/Oct 2016 cohort. I have begun the application process and am looking forward to meeting other potential cohort-mates. :)

A little about me: I have a dual BS in psychology and business from 2001, did most of my pre-reqs after graduating and planned to do PA school--after a gut feeling nursing was more my calling, I waited until a better time in my life (my boys are a bit older now) to start pursuing my career again. I'm currently a CNA in a pediatric post-acute facility and love my job. My plans after WGU/BSN is to continue on to MSN/NP-PAC most likely. We are currently in PA but relocating back to North County SD this summer.

Say hi and introduce yourself if you'd like. :)

Omg I love my mentor and biochem is challenging but I love it. On task 2, passed task 1 with no issues. Feel like I'm behind? But I'm working away doing a lil every day so it's not overwhelming at all.

How are you doing Grenledgal? You started sept 1 too right? Can't wait to meet others at labs in December so i can feel like I'm part of a class lol

Is your mentor ------------? That's who I have, she's great. I think it's super important to click with your mentor since they are your buddy throughout. Glad you like yours too!

I think you're right on schedule with Biochem. As long as youre getting some done each day, you'll be fine. Just make sure it's all done and in by 10/15. Re-doing Biochem would SUCK! I just started Task 4, so hoping to keep moving along. I work when my kids are at school, or my younger is napping. Whenever I have a little chunk of time. And yes, I started 9/1 as well. Looking forward to meeting you for the Dec lab as well. :)

Yes ------------- is my mentor she's great. Can't wait to meet you at labs! Since we can't post names here will have to think of another way to figure out who eack other are lol I know I'll be in solid black scrubs with the company logo that I work for. And my hair up probably in my famous nurse bun lol

hi CaRT2RN--are you able to receive pm's just not send them? if so, i can pm you my email address.

Hi, thanks for starting this thread. I started the WGU process in June 16. I have a BS in Biobehavioral Health, and an MPH in Epidemiology from New York Medical College, and I have been an Epidemiologist for 9 years at the LA County Health department. I was in a nursing program for a year but worked full time and wasn't able to finish because I failed a class, by less than a percent. Most of my credits transferred and WGU said I'm 60% done with the program already. I received recommendation letters from the nursing director at the county health dept. and my epidemiology director. I had a 3.00 and 76 TEAS, which is not great but I thought other things would be taken into consideration, and it seems like they ignore everything and focus on TEAS and GPA only, I could be wrong tho. I didn't get into the September cohort, then didn't change anything and didn't get into October, and my counselor is so encouraging and positive that I can get in if I improve the GPA, and take TEAS again if necessary. I wanted to give myself enough time to study well to retake TEAS, so haven't retaken it yet, but I retook AP I on straighterline so my GPA is now 3.33, and my TEAS is still 76 and my counselor told me that this would bring me to a whole different bracket so she seems so encouraging and I'm assuming that if she didn't think I had a chance to get in then she would not be too encouraging and positive and would tell me. If I don't get into this cohort for Feb 17 then I'll try to get A's in AP II and Micro, and increase my GPA to a 4.00 hopefully. And also study to try to take TEAS again and score higher. Just want general positive feedback, and if anyone also knows anyone who took months of trying to get in, or got rejected from several cohorts. Also can anyone say with confidence that WGU actually looks at other things besides the TEAS and GPA???? Thanks.

How are you liking the program? I have 2 classes left before I could apply.

After a year of trying I finally got into WGU RN BSN cohort for 2017 in August, So Cal!!!

Congrats Enoch82! I am near the end of term 2 (term 3 if you include the first 6 month term). Do you know where your clinicals will be yet?

Thanks! I'm going to be at a hospital in Placentia and one at Citrus Valley. Also how do you like it? The counselor said for 2.5 years there are no breaks, not even holidays cause they're always in session, will there be time for any breaks between classes?

I don't know how they define 'breaks' but you get mini breaks (like a week or so) after one term finishes (if you're on top of your work)--and once you're accepted into the nursing portion, you will get your calendar for the remaining 2 years. You will know what weeks you could be scheduled for clinical. So I know I don't have clinical over Christmas, if I am done my work, I will be on 'break' but if I'm behind, I won't be! I try to stay ahead to give myself a little breathing room before the next course/term begins.

great feedback!

great feedback!

Hi Enoch! Congrats on getting in after a year of trying! Did you happen to retake your TEAS? How'd you study?

I didn't retake it actually, I just kept putting my name in the pool of applicants until I finally got selected.
