WGU Prelicensure Program SoCal-Sept 2016 Cohort

Published

Hello everyone. Just thought I would start a thread for those thinking about applying into WGU Prelicensure BSN program for the Sept/Oct 2016 cohort. I have begun the application process and am looking forward to meeting other potential cohort-mates. :)

A little about me: I have a dual BS in psychology and business from 2001, did most of my pre-reqs after graduating and planned to do PA school--after a gut feeling nursing was more my calling, I waited until a better time in my life (my boys are a bit older now) to start pursuing my career again. I'm currently a CNA in a pediatric post-acute facility and love my job. My plans after WGU/BSN is to continue on to MSN/NP-PAC most likely. We are currently in PA but relocating back to North County SD this summer.

Say hi and introduce yourself if you'd like. :)

I talked to my advisor yesterday regarding the Sept cohort and she said the list should still be ready the end of this month, or early August. Hoping we find out soon.

I was told July 1st was the cut off and the cohort list would be out August. So many getting different answers

Where in SD are you commuting from amgordon? I will be in Encinitas, hoping for the Aug cohort.

My goodness...July 20th... can't be too much longer of a wait, right??

I am in Pacific Beach. Didn't know there was also an Aug cohort. This cohort stuff is def getting a bit confusing. My EC told me that if everything was in by Aug 1 I would be considered for the October cohort. Was also told they would be reviewing my application in August, though I think she also said something about it being placed in with the July 1 application deadline pool. I talk to her tomorrow so I can hopefully get a clear answer. However, I am still waiting for them to update my transcript evaluation with the two CLEP exams I passed a few weeks ago. Patience is not my forte, sigh.

I keep hoping that tomorrow is the day that we find out! I live in Mission Viejo, so my fingers are crossed to get in and get a MV cohort. If anyone gets that magic email please let us know.

That would be great if you got MV considering you're in town! My advisor said she would call before we get the email--that she likes to talk to her students with acceptance/denial instead of an email. Have your advisors said much about your strength as a candidate and likelihood of acceptance? I know they can't say for certain, but just wondering if any of you guys have any idea of how you stand in comparison. This waiting game is so tough now that another week has come and gone. I too hoped today, being a Friday and the second to last week of July, would be the day.. but the day is ticking by. :-/

Talking to my EC in two hours. No idea why we are talking because I am officially finished with the application, so it is just a waiting game. I figure the Oct start cohort will be notified around Labor Day week. Hoping earlier, but trying to be realistic. I feel weird posting stats but I was told I was very competitive with a BA in psych, clinical research job for three years, 1500 hours of ER volunteering, 4.0 science GPA, and 92 TEAS. Though I did get rejected from community college so I am always wary of being too optimistic.

Yes with a 92 on teas & 4.0 in sciences you are in the running! Can't see them denying you

After you talk to your EC will you please update us here? :-)

Hung up with EC and this is what I got: Sept start cohort is still not posted. The decision making woman is still mulling it over I suppose. EC will call you regardless of acceptance or rejection. Applications per cohort are ranging from 60-100, with 10 accepted. She reiterated that my file is very competitive stats-wise (see previous post) by mentioning the bachelors, the experience, the high GPA, high TEAS composite score as well as high score in TEAS reading section. October cohort will be notified, just as I predicted, in late Aug to early Sept. Personally, I think they will probably unfortunately take as long as the week of Labor Day. Oct cohort will be associated (not sure exactly what that means except that I'll be making friendly with AirBnB most likely) with Cedars Sinai in LA, BUT clinicals can be anywhere in several different hospitals: Pasadena, Mission Viejo etc. Sounds like you are not assigned a specific hospital per se for the whole program, but rotate or are assigned to the closest?

And so we wait. I am probably going to do some month-long reading or exercise challenge- something to pass the time and distract myself. Maybe just Netflix binge a show or two.
