Hello everyone. Just thought I would start a thread for those thinking about applying into WGU Prelicensure BSN program for the Sept/Oct 2016 cohort. I have begun the application process and am looking forward to meeting other potential cohort-mates. :)
A little about me: I have a dual BS in psychology and business from 2001, did most of my pre-reqs after graduating and planned to do PA school--after a gut feeling nursing was more my calling, I waited until a better time in my life (my boys are a bit older now) to start pursuing my career again. I'm currently a CNA in a pediatric post-acute facility and love my job. My plans after WGU/BSN is to continue on to MSN/NP-PAC most likely. We are currently in PA but relocating back to North County SD this summer.
Say hi and introduce yourself if you'd like. :)
How is everyone doing with their application file? I'm looking forward to the deadline next week!
Hi IBCLCOC, my application is officially complete (I had to CLEP out of the Human Growth and Development course bc mine didn't cover the lifespan--and despite having a BS in Psych, lol.) I passed that yesterday, so everything is now in. Now I just wait......
How about everyone else? I'm so excited to hear next month--and hopeful to get started this Sept. :)
Last I talked to my advisor she said it was around 60 completed applicants (but a few more might trickle in)--and they accept around 12 for a natural attrition of ~10.
So now we just wait! I'm in the middle of preparing for my move back to the west coast, so at least I'll be distracted for awhile. :)
I also applied for the sept/Oct cohort. I am currently a registered respiratory therapist. What was everyone's gpa & teas scores? I had a 3.75gpa in my sciences and teas 80% advanced
I am not sure what else they are looking for when they make their selections.... it's nerve-wracking! Hopefully we get the calls next week after the holiday, not sure how much longer I can take this haha. Good to meet everyone
Do you happen to know if this is going to be the last, Mosin Viejo or Irvine area cohort? I've noticed from reading the past two years cohort they are station doubt of those three different areas and attend hospitals in those areas, since you seem to get decent info from your advisor I am wondering if you know this
I too heard around mid-late July for the Sept cohort which I believe in Mission Valley (?) area, but not sure. They adding another location and cohort to the last round (which was great for them--they took over 20 students total!)--but not sure their plan for ours. I'm not-so-secretively hoping they make another even further south by the time our clinical rotations come since I'll be commuting from North County SD. Either way tho, Orange County will be a good commute for me.
I am reading the May 2016 cohort posts and seems they are all moving along thru Pharmacology, Biochem, Nutrition, Dosing etc. They seem to be a good cohort and sounds like you have to stay focused and driven, even tho it's not completely self-paced. I'm excited and can't wait to hear!
I just completed my application on July 14 for what my EC said would be an Oct start. I first called WGU in mid-June, and was told that they will probably not review the Oct start cohort until about Aug, so she gave me until Aug 1st to get my application in. I would be commuting from San Diego. I am hoping for a Southern OC clinical site.

Hi GrenIedGal,
I just graduated December 19th from APU.. I received all As in my prerequisites.. The only class I didn't take was sociology, I took culture psychology so I'm crossing my fingers for it to count.. I have two boys so WGU would be ideal for me, since being a single mom I can keep working and modeling education to them.. I'm so excited about these next steps for us!! I just heard about WGU like a week ago.. I have an appointment with my counselor Monday.. How about you? :))
