Hello everyone. Just thought I would start a thread for those thinking about applying into WGU Prelicensure BSN program for the Sept/Oct 2016 cohort. I have begun the application process and am looking forward to meeting other potential cohort-mates. :)
A little about me: I have a dual BS in psychology and business from 2001, did most of my pre-reqs after graduating and planned to do PA school--after a gut feeling nursing was more my calling, I waited until a better time in my life (my boys are a bit older now) to start pursuing my career again. I'm currently a CNA in a pediatric post-acute facility and love my job. My plans after WGU/BSN is to continue on to MSN/NP-PAC most likely. We are currently in PA but relocating back to North County SD this summer.
Say hi and introduce yourself if you'd like. :)

Hi! I too am hoping to get into wgu. I dont even know if i started the process yet, I have applied to the school, but my advisor has not been giving me much information, just the pre reqs and that's it. I am almost done with my pre reqs, just need the science classes which I am hoping to do on straighter line.
Hi Marialed9! Thanks for posting. So have you had phone conversations with your advisor? I have only had one so far, but have another in early March. I am writing my letter of intent and have one more letter of recommendation to get in and that's it. What is your background in? Are you living in SoCal?
No -_- I have yet to be explained tho whole process. I am in so cal, san Gabriel valley. I am currently a cna in home care.

Hi I have also sent application last month and they just reviewed my transcript, but my science classes are in process of reviewing which I don't know if they will accept it because its been more than 6 years. they sent me a letter that I need to send them resume and letter of recommendation, and intent , have you guys done that? im also a CNA but Im not working as a cna though, im working as a dialysis technician. but my cna still active. im from ventura county i know its a little far from where they do the clinical but if this is gonna be worth it, i will sacrifice driving. please let me know what are your next step or is there anything that we should know before we continue applying. thank you.. i been looking for recent post actually and i found this..
Hi Twainsette. I have my letters of recommendation in and my CV/resume, and my letter of intent. Now I too am just waiting on them reviewing my sciences since it's been over the time limit for mine as well. I have to CLEP test out of Human Growth and Development, since my psych degree didn't cover a class of development for the lifespan. What is your undergrad degree in? Mine is a dual psych and business from 2001. I'm hoping they consider I did well on the science portion of the TEAS V and had almost a 4.0 in those sciences because I really don't want to retake them!
I'll be in North County San Diego but willing to drive too. :)

Hi guys. My name is simone. I applied to the may 2016 cohort and I am still waiting to see if i got in or not. I hear california is super competitive. Hopefully a high GPA and clinical experience can outweigh my semi-decent TEAS score. I got an 80. How did you guys all do?

Hello,
My name s Cindy and I am also looking into this program starting in September. I was beyond excited when I heard about this program two days ago. I currently work in a Psych hospital and need to work through nursing school. I have done all of my pre reqs except biochemistry and stats, which fueld my excitment. I called for more information today. I was concerned with the scool's pass rate on the NCLEX. Thats when my dreams were crushed. The admission councelor informed me that most applicants have a science gpa of 3.6-3.7. My gpa is not even close to that. Im now wondering if its even worth applying. I do have experience, I have been working at this hospital for over 2 years. Im surrounded by nurses, and I know how to help patients with their ADLs. I guess my question is, What is everyone's science gpa?

Cindy, it can't hurt to apply and be confident about the nurse and WGU student you'd be. They take MANY factors into consideration, not only your GPA. And I'm sure each of us have our reservations. For me, it was the fact my science courses were old (past the 5 year 'expiration')-and I needed them to be evaluated by the CA Director for approval. I held my breath but luckily they accepted them other than my Biochemistry (for whatever reason.) I was told many factors came into play, my GPA, my current work experience (I'm a pediatric CNA), my TEAS score, my letter of recommendations and my letter of intent. Each piece makes up your portfolio. If you feel like your science GPA could be stronger, hopefully your TEAS score (especially science portion) is strong. Highlight your strengths. Best of luck!!
I just found out about the online school straighterline. Has anyone taken their anatomy or microbiology? I'm thinking of retaking these courses for a better grade, but don't know if its worth it. Each class is about $300, and I dont know how difficult they would be. I did a little research and found mixed reviews about the courses. Thanks in advance.
