Hi everyone, please i need more information about online nursing. I am currently enrolled in a community college to do some prerequisites but have not decided either to continue Nursing program in the community college or transfer to WGU? I live in Texas with my two children, and also working full time. i have always wanted a fast tract nursing program that works with my schedule. My concerns about WGU are: Is there anyone who finished from WGU and working as a nurse? Will WGU assist in getting employment? Can i take some prerequisites in WGU? How do I do the clinical? Lastly, Is the program cost efficient? Thank you.

I actually just applied to for RN-BSN so I personally cannot tell you much. I know there are a lot of people here that have gone through WGU. However, if you call them they are more than willing to answer your questions. They are super helpful. So if you don't get the answers you are looking for up here, try giving them a call! :)

Thank you Noelly10,

Isn't online only and for people who already have licensure obtained by a program fulfilling BON requirements for student hours in clinical rotations? You couldn't do an entry-level program in something like that. You would have to graduate from a program that meets that requirement (among others). Your BON would know what programs would meet their requirements to have grads sit for NCLEX.

If I am mistaken about WGU/online/etc., and they have clinical settings for full student rotation experience, nevermind.

WGU has a prelicensure program with clinical rotations in a few locations. I assume that's what OP is asking about.

Yes, i want to know if they do clinical rotations online too. thank you for your quick responses.

What do you mean clinical rotations online? When I spoke to they told me the program is online but you would do your clinicals at different locations...

No, there are no online clinical rotations. I know at least one person here is familiar with the prelicensure program and can give you better information, but I know you do need to actually go to clinicals in person. :)

I'm that person! The pre-licensure program is only available in certain states (Texas is one of them), and only certain locations within those states. All of the didactic content is indeed online. However, there are of course required clinical rotations which take place at hospitals and other locations. In order to participate in clinical rotations, you must be available for up to 40 hours per week (hours not of your choosing) for a 2-6 week window PER ROTATION. There are four rotations per calendar year.

You would complete any needed pre-requisites in a 6 month term BEFORE enrolling in the nursing/ clinical part.

Clinical rotations cannot be done online because part of the learning experience entails touching patients. After all, you're learning to become a nurse.

You cannot learn psychomotor tasks (injections, urinary catheter insertion, tube feedings, blood product administration, etc) online. You cannot learn to assess patients (listening to heart & lung sounds, feeling the skin for warmth or coolness, percussing body cavities, detecting odors) online.

All state boards of nursing require nursing students to complete a predetermined number of hands-on clinical practicum hours because, after all, you cannot become a nurse online.

TheCommuter, the reason for the question is that, a friend laughed at me when i told her about , She said that "how do you become a nurse online?" I appreciate every one who has contributed to this......
