West Coast University?

U.S.A. California

I'll be graduating from LVN school in November and want to go on to an LVN-RN program. I haven't done any RN pre-requisites and, at age 50, don't want to take the time to do so... so I'm looking for a program with "built in" pre-reqs. I'm curious about West Coast University but can't find much info about it. Please tell me what you know about it... thanks!

here is the proposed I found

Maybe that will help. But as far as I know it was the OC branch but as the date. It was JUNE> and right now they are starting classes already

does anyone know how long or how much the rn-bsn program is for WCU? i am just wondering because im trying to calculate about how long it will take me to get my bsn and about how much...i just graduated lvn program and just took my nclex..results still pending..and am debating on if i should go to west coast university lvn-rn program then rn - bsn program or college network lvn - bsn program ...i know college network is cheaper than west coast but the whole online thing scares me...so basically i need as much info as i can get from anyone that has been to WCU or TCN or anyone that has information on it.. thank you!

I tried community college before. I stopped working as LVN to pursue my career be a fulltime student. Unfortunately, I was not accepted to their program and lost almost 55,000 to $60,000 annual income just for waiting to get in to the program :(. If I should have decided of going to WCU as soon as I stop working I should be done by now. And it was a lot cheaper that time ( $45,000). I am also planning to go for my rn-bsn after this but not in west coast. Maybe University of phoenix or Calstate northridge ( I heard they are crediting it). Anyway I don't like online either. I believe you have an option of not taking online. For further question you an always contact them and set up an appointment. good luck

I'm applying to different LVN-RN bridge programs in S.Cali, is it true for west coast your LPN school GPA has to be a 3.0 for you to be considered?? I have my pre-req's already completed well above 3.0 gpa but my lpn program, passing was hard enough! def not a 3.0. Hope this isn't true! any information?? Thanks!

I it true that west coast requires 3.0 GPA. But if you pass the Hesi entrance and your GPA is below 3.0. you will be put into probation. this all means that you have to have a 3.0 over all grade before you take you lvn-rn transition. that is why you shouldn't have C grade on most of you class. But you will be fine if you really study ahead. Most of the instructors are helpful. :)

This thread had been very helpful. Thank you! A few questions:

  1. Can you give me more info the 'community service' that has been mentioned?
  2. 'Math' is that college math or algebra?
  3. Does WCU accept recent CLEP test results as pre-req credit?
  4. What is the class size?

They have a start date for OC the week of April 14th so I'm going for info/orientation in 2 weeks.

Thank you :specs:

I don't know about the community service yet. I think they will go into detail later.

The math class is college Algebra.

The class size that I am in is about 40 students.

Thank you! I'll add the 'community service' question to my list to ask at the info/orientation meeting.:specs:

community service is the one I am currently doing right now. You get to do it on your 6th term after transition. since we only meet 12hrs a week for clinical the state requires the school to have a make up hours and that is a community hours. for a start is a 12hrs to 15hrs community service. Your instructor will help on that one. Max class i had is 70+ this is due to the repeater from the term ahead of me. but for such a big class any lab is only 15( sciences) but in your clinical max is 10. Whis is very good because you will have more time with you instructor. :)

I meant 12hrs x 10 because. every term is 10weeks.

Ahh, I wondered where the required clinical hours would be. Thank you! Now I can ask if a current job will count as hours, if you must be supervised and exactly what will count toward those extra hours *before* I sign on the dotted line.

Was there anything else you found to be different from what you were told vs. what you've experienced after you started?

:specs:

they usually require community service in out patient clinics.
