West Coast University spring 2019

U.S.A. California

Hey guys!

i just got accepted into West Coast University in Orange County. I'm super anxious/excited about starting the program and I was even more in shock to find out that with all the classes I'm transferring I'll only end up with about $40,000 in loans for my BSN degree. I'm really impressed with their NCLEX pass rates (93%) and I'm also glad they are WASC, CCNE, and CBN accredited.

Im going to be moving from Northern California (Sacramento) for this program and I was wondering if there's anyone (female) that would need a roommate? I don't want to live on my own because the cost of living can be super pricey in Orange County and I won't be working.

Another question I have is how good are the professors? I have a 3.8 overall GPA with A's in most of my sciences but I've alwayd had to study hard. I expect nursing to be the hardest thing I'll ever had to study but I think it all begins with a great professor..

any words of advice from WCU graduates or current students?

Have anyone of you taken nutrition? Did that transfer over?

Hey pmc888,

I did and it transferred! It’s equivalent to NURS 225 which I believe is one of the nursing classes. I was quite surprised.

Hi hgl22,

thanks so much for your response. ? I will be emailing them about that. That will be one less class that I’ll have to take.

Have you already started looking at the books yet?

@slyvalleygrl @brandi737

Thanks all!

I'm upset because I spent time and money in those prerequisites which are qualified at all other nursing programs! Statistics being one of them. I even sent the statistics syllabus and all the other proof of the anatomy & physiology classes to the registrar but she's given me no update! I guess I'll have to go in person.

I wouldn’t know what books to get right now. I’m waiting for orientation to find out all the info. My reg day is 2/28 and orientation is 3/27. When are yours?

They should take most prerequisites. The only one they don’t take in my case is Philosophy. That I have to take at WCU.

Hi

Oh no! When did you take those classes? I do know that they are only good for 5 years at wcu when transferring.

@hgl22

My reg & Tech day is feb 20. Orientation on March 27.

@epowetata it took a minute for them to approve my statistics class and I took mine in Chapman Universities Business School. Which I thought would for sure be approved from the beginning. Dont worry I think they'll work with you.

@pmc888 I also transferred nutrition in and it counted AND they took my pharmacology class too ???

anyone who needs the critical reasoning book let me know I have it. Whatever it costs to rent on amazon I'll match it. :)

Thanks! I’ve taken them all before the 5 year mark it’s just that they say there’s a rule where you have to take both A&P 1 and 2 at the same campus.

also, would anyone know how the registration for classes go? I’m looking at getting this part time job since I won’t be in nursing core yet, but not sure of their flexibility of schedule and how class times will be.
Would I be able to choose my own time for classes? I believe I’ll be taking first year seminar for sure for the first term.

Specializes in Medical Assistant.

So... how would I go about trying to get them to cut my costs. I know theyre trying to maximize their profit but I have heard some students say they have been able to cut their whole tuition (100k) in half from scholarships given to them by WCU and I'm trying to do the same LOL. I'm basically transferring all of my GE's also except FYS, critical thinking, and the GE capstone and I did a rough estimate and I would finish in the program in around 11 terms which is like 5ish semesters? ~96K????

Hello,

96k + financial aid for me is about $10k per year so it cut it down close to $76k, which is almost half..
