New grad BSN moving to Corpus Christi

Thank you for your reply! I will look into McAllen Texas. I am open to anything including nursing homes, jails etc. My goal is to get a residency but I imagined it would be difficult so I am keeping all options open. It is the same situation here in Los Angeles, lots of nursing schools and lots of applicants for one job.

New grad BSN moving to Corpus Christi

I'll be graduating from my nursing program next year and we want to relocate to Texas. Can anyone tell me how the job market is there. I have not found too much for new grads. Is this a good move or is there any other cities that would be more likely for me to land a job ?

    Fall Semester and COVID

Here in california we are headed into phase 3 which is supposed to include schools. My school is beginning to allow students back on campus soon with modifications. It will be a limited amount of students at a time. All nursing core is still online. However they want to try to get skills labs back with about 3-4 per instructor. As for clinical we have telehealth and next term should be the same way. There is word that some hospitals are letting students back but I am not sure how many. Hopefully we will be able to get back to clinical soon.

Work as CNA through nursing school? possible?

It would be better to keep the job you have now as it has flexible hours. That will help you out a lot in nursing school when your schedule changes often. I understand your frustrated with your job but if it pays well and is flexible ots better to just stick it out until you finish school. If you take the CNA job and can't switch up your hours and lower pay you will just be adding more unnecessary stress.
  5. So far my school has not canceled all clinicals. But they have canceled our ER rotation because there have been cases of COVID-19 at that particular hospital. I think we will also be following all other colleges and going online for classes.

If you keep pushing they will take it. In my experience when they didn't want to take some of my classes I just got a copy of a syllabus and brought it in to the registrar and they accepted the classes.

Yes first term you only go four times. You basically do CNA stuff. We attend clinicals once a week.

Your first term in nursing core you will spend the first four weeks on campus learning skills. Then you will attend clinical four times. However it changes it term. First term it is 6:30am to 5pm. And in your second term it is 12 hours 6am to 6:30pm. You attend clinical weeks 1-9. As for working its possible. You just have to schedule you time and find what works for you. I usually study 3 hours a day when i get home from work. Then I will wake up early before class to study another two hours.

I am sorry that your going through that. I only know of one person who failed out of a nursing program and transferred to wcu. She was in an ADN program so she had to complete some bsn pre reqs when she transferred and she started over in nursing core from fundamentals. What did they say when you explained to them that you could not get a letter of good standing ? However, I dont know if that is the norm. I would just stand your ground and keep bugging them about it. I wish I could give you more advice i'm sorry.

Oh okay so then you will do fine with the fast pace. Good luck to you ! Hopefully they take your classes I am not sure how it would work in your case. I will keep you updated on how it goes!

Yes they are all added together and if you score a 76 or higher your homework is added in for your final grade. We will usually have a quiz every week from week 2 until week 8 of the term. And a mid term and a final. The exams and quizzes are all taken through ati. I find them challenging but I think that is the case for all nursing programs. It is also an accelerated program so it is a lot of self study. I am finishing up fundamentals and will start med surg in 2 weeks. Yes the professors tutor and we have student tutors called PALS tutoring. When will you be starting ? Are you going to the LA campus ?

Hi, It is similar at wcu except both your tests and quizzes are counted in your critical score( the score you need to pass the class). At wcu you need to score a 76 or higher in your critical in order to pass the class and have your assignments added into your grade. So it is not based soley on three exams like your previous school. The critical grade counts all of your tests and quizzes

If you conditionally accepted you will have to take and pass the teas exam. In FYS everyone takes the teas but you will have to pass it if you are conditionally accepted in order to continue in the program.

Oh I see. Yea they don't allow anyone to take four classes because of the work load and it being an accelerated program. It would be very challenging to take all of those classes together. I assumed you transferred in critical reasoning. You are correct, FYS and capstone arent related. FYS is just a how to succeed class and capstone is a whole class dedicated to a research paper. They are both mostly busy work. I know its frustrating I spent a whole term taking only critical reasoning, because they would not let me overload. However, I would not recommended doing all those classes together even if they let you.

One person in my FYS class was taking FYS with patho and capstone. She was the only person I had ever heard of doing that.
