West Coast University spring 2019

U.S.A. California

Hey guys!

i just got accepted into West Coast University in Orange County. I'm super anxious/excited about starting the program and I was even more in shock to find out that with all the classes I'm transferring I'll only end up with about $40,000 in loans for my BSN degree. I'm really impressed with their NCLEX pass rates (93%) and I'm also glad they are WASC, CCNE, and CBN accredited.

Im going to be moving from Northern California (Sacramento) for this program and I was wondering if there's anyone (female) that would need a roommate? I don't want to live on my own because the cost of living can be super pricey in Orange County and I won't be working.

Another question I have is how good are the professors? I have a 3.8 overall GPA with A's in most of my sciences but I've alwayd had to study hard. I expect nursing to be the hardest thing I'll ever had to study but I think it all begins with a great professor..

any words of advice from WCU graduates or current students?

Hey Guys I'm in a tough situation!

So I already have my bachelors degree and I just applied for August cohort, but I don't for financial aid, only private loans. However I got rejected from 2 private loans and I sent them to my financial aid advisor to see if they can offer that Scholarship. Has anyone had a situation where they were rejected from private loans, but the scholarship WCU wasn't enough to cover the costs? If that's the case I need to figure out how to get 35K out of my pocket.. for just take my time and apply to ADN programs in a year LOL

Gosh I say maybe make a payment plan if you can or just wait to get into an ADN program. That would be up to you though and how bad you want it. Also your cost went way down how did you manage that? I am thinking of attending as well but I do not know if I want that much debt. ? Good luck !!

Yeah I looked into the payment plan but its like $3,000 a month! I'm leaning towards just applying to ADN programs, because even though they offer the scholarship for those who can't get approved, I'm sure it isn't enough LOL. The 35K is for a year since we pay for academic year, so in reality I would need to cough up around 70K for the whole program since I transferred In all my GE's and some nursing classes LOL

The scholarship offered in your first year is based on merit. It is a point system and the amount you get depends on your need, GPA, and TEAS or HESI score. I can't remember the exact amounts for each point category, as the scholarships I have gotten since in the last two years have differed form the original one and are based on GPA and need. If you qualify the merit should cover most of the amount you need and the rest can be put on a payment plan.

Hey everyone!

I was looking to maybe apply to this school, depending on what final cost would look like for me once I find out what courses I've taken would transfer over. If I looked over the TES correctly, I only really need the lifespan psych course and pathophysio. Does anyone know a cc that offers pathophysio? I'd like to take as many prereqs at a cc (preferably SD area to as far as Mira Costa) as possible should I end up attending this school to reduce cost. Any tips are appreciated ?

Hello,

I’ll be starting in April 2020 and currently working a full-time job... I transferred most of my GE classes, only need to take Oral Comm and Chemistry along with the other 4 mandatory GE courses at WCU. Got my proposed schedule and I don’t start nursing classes until the 2nd semester... wondering if I should still work full time while taking my GE classes (1st semester) or should I go part time? Any advice? I for sure plan on working part-time/on call once I start core nursing classes..

Hey hgl, how are your classes going currently with COVID (like online vs in campus?) I'm trying to see if I can talk to my employer to keep my job while going to school and work alternate hours etc. From what I'm gathering so far mostly it's all non science GES are online, science is maybe 1-2 days a week 4 hr classes and not sure what to expect of skills/clinicals ...any insight on your program experience would be great. Thanks

I do not know what they are doing for GE's right now. As for nursing core every term is different because only some hospitals have allowed students back. If you cannot go to the hospital you will do telehealth to fill your clinical hours and that is done from home. All lectures are online as well nothing in person. As for skills I don't know I am a few semesters ahead and have not had skills in a long time. Simulation labs have also been virtual the last few terms. This term I am in public health and the only thing in person is our clinicals. Usually you will attend clinicals one day a week and lecture 1-2 days per week.
