hey everyone,
i really need some help from anyone. any advice from anyone really. most questioned on topics, etc. i retake for the third time on 12/16. i took the kaplan review course that ended on 11/15, i have done QT 1-4 and reviewed all my content. i am getting worse kaplan scores then i was before the last time i took the test. i basically cry everynight and can barely sleep at all. im a nervous wreck and seriously dont know what to do. i think this will be my last try taking the nclex and then i will have gone to a big 10 4 year out of state school for absolutely nothing.
i have read the kaplan course book front to back and had done all the qt and qbank before my last attempt. first test ended at 75 questions, 2nd test ended at 210 questions.
im just so down in the dumps depressed about it that even when i go to study i end up basically having a panic attack almost everytime.

Sweetie, you can absolutely do this and you did NOT go to school for nothing. I spent as much time telling myself I was smart, capable, and worthy of being a nurse as I did studying. Do not beat yourself up. We are often our own worst enemies! Take a break from the studying and do something nice for yourself. Get a mani/pedi, buy a pair of jeans, or a shirt that you've been wanting, get your hair done.
When you review Kaplan (I did not use this, so I don't know what it's like), do you understand the rationales behind the answers? I think you probably know more than you give yourself credit for. Do you have areas that you are particularly weak in? For me, it was delegating to LPNs or CMAs. Killed me! But I passed with 75. Do not talk down to yourself. Do not think negatively. Breathe, pray, speak kindly to yourself. Please, please let us know how you're doing.

Hi Murphyal, I haven't done my exam retake as yet so I'm unable to say anything about the most frequently tested areas. However, I just want to encourage you, because from your post I sense that you are being a bit hard on yourself. Loads of stuff happen in our lives that we will never ever be able to explain or even begin to understand; but that's all a part of life. You really need to try to rebuild your self confidence because this will be your greatest downfall. The NCLEX is a VERY important exam, yes, but it sounds to me like you have made every effort to prepare yourself, so I have no doubt that you know the material to pass; now, you need to start believing that - try to take control of your thoughts, think positive and it will all happen. I'm praying especially for you.

Seems to me that you're suffering from a bad case of test anxiety.
You could see a therapist and learn to over come that test anxiety. Exercise and relaxation cds with positive imagery can help too.
i honestly just feel soooo hopeless. my scores are getting worse. im not retaining information. my life is like on hold until i pass this test! if i dont pass it this time i dont even think that i can afford to take it again....

Take a day or two off to relax, just relax. And stop taking readiness exams. You are messing with your head with these tests. At this point you are not getting a true picture of what you know or don't know. Just practice your relaxation techniques and if you want to continue studying, answer questions and study rationales. But no more readiness tests. Good luck.

i agree with the previous posters. take a break. you need some time off from studying. clear your mind by treating yourself to something nice (movie, manicure/pedicure, meall at an outdoor cafe....) just don't think about the nclex for a few days. then, when you feel ready, go back and tackle the kaplan qtrainers and qbank and any other source of questions you may have. you may not score well at first but in a few days you will see yourself improving. you have 2 weeks. use the time wisely when you begin studying again.
you can do this!!!

I am in the same boat with you dear. I am taking it 3rd time and taking it on 12/16. I know the feelings and I know how it feels. I know we all are capable of doing it. Just don't kill yourself over for the anxiety. As everyone is saying take a day or two off and instead of killing yourself over the scores just keep doing the questions. May God help us all to pass this exam. You are smart and can do this.

I am taking my exam in about 13 days. I also took Kaplan, my first four trainers scores ranged from 62- 83 %. On trainer 5 scored 51%, Qtrainer 6 - 59% and Qtrainer 7 - 54%. The trainers are going to get harder. The last two only have application and analysis questions. The last trainer has 50% are application and 50% analysis. I am going to review the content in the areas that I did not do well in. I looked at the overall scores in the areas and notice I was below 50% in two areas on qtrainer 7. One was basic care which I had low score on trainer 6 as well and psychosoical which I just did not do well on qtrainer 7. Most of the questions I got wrong were analysis, so I am practicing questions and reading before I take the exam.
Good luck when you take the test. Don't get down on yourself.

my 2nd one is again a failure. I just got the news last week. I had pass the grieving process and have now accepted the truth. I decided that the 3rd time I get the test again, i will never let anyone know about it but just me. How do I start now? how many weeks or months of preparation do i need to do? before taking my 3rd attempt? :imbar

1. Dont tell anyone your text date. if they ask, give them a date like three days after you know you would have seen your result.
2. Dont beat yourself on your Kaplan result. DO NOT REPEAT A KAPLAN TEXT TWICE- just read the rational.
3. when you are done with all the kaplan text, relax and read the rationale.
4. take a day break and RELAX.
5. BE POSITIVE. BE VERY POSITIVE.
6. As long as nobody knows your text date. Don't even let anybody know you are taking it again.
7. NCLEX is really easy. its the anxiety and the what if... that makes us loose concentration.
Read the question and make sure you fully understand the question (very important)
Practice eliminating the wrong anwers.
PLEASE, dont think too much over a question.
Just understand the question, eliminate, and click your answer.
Be positive. nobody knows. you do not owe nobody. Relax and stop worrying
