Venting - Where is the Loyalty!
So I've recently started a new job! Hey me...then, I went in today to find two team mates discussing one of our nurse's past drug use with a patient! A patient.. When did nursing get to this point where staff feels comfortable to slaughter each other with patients. It truly broke my heart, especially since the victim of this gossip, is quite a good nurse; one that they all cuddle whenever she's around. I've had a few jobs in my career, but never encountered this level of unprofessionalism and disloyalty. Poor victim will forever be haunted my her past, but might never know as she continues to be welcomed prior to being slain in her absence. This is certainly not the place for me! Then they wonder why the staff turn over rate is through the roof. They better start their recruiting cause this "old fashioned" nurse is quite keen on loyalty. We need to have each other's back! Right; rant over, thank you, now I've got to go back to my job search.

Seventh Day Adventist and working on Sabbath???
Probably a bit of a delayed response but the SDA church believes what is stated in the bible that it is "good to do good on the Sabbath". Therefore this sda nurse only ask for sabbaths off if there is something special she needs to attend - otherwise, sabbaths are taken off as given in the rota. Never mind working a sabbath because this is a part of her mission for The Lord - helping the needy. Now where working on the sabbath becomes a problem is when you are given off on the sabbath and you go in search of extra shifts for the money. This I believe is no more about the sick client but the staff making more money. Just my 2 pence worth :)

New nurse with job that is causing anxiety and depression
I really feel for you. It's just sad that as senior nurses we often times tend to forget where we are coming from Lift your head up, dont allow anyone to steal you self confidence and drive you into depression. Move on - that stess, will only make room for errors on your part and you will not be supported. The very same thing happened to my friend and I live everyday regretting not advising her to leave while she was ahead, now she's before the nursingboard with a suspended licence and having to do refreshers course; simply because she was not supported. Like the good saying goes "Rome was not built in a day" Its a gradual process, you'll get it. You've got to take care of you - so you'll be well enough to take care of others. Continue to work hard and I'll keep you in my prayers.

What song describes your workplace environment?
"If I knew then what I know now, I'd find a way to make things work out somehow" cant recall who did it, but that line is just fitting for my place of work right now

Would you even consider this???
Well, I've been a scrub in operating theatre for a number of years; quite like it I must add, however, with all the restructuring in the NHS, downbanding, increase in workload and salary freeze; the atmosphere have since become unbearable, so I'm thinking of trying something new - Care/Residential home nursing! Suggested this to a few persons and they give me the "are you out of your mind" look. Is this really such a bad idea? I've never worked in this setting before, however, I have a great love for the elderly and I feel I could make a great contribution in this area. What are your views guys? I just need some feed back. Go on then give me your experiences.

Is this for real??
I've been on the top of the Band 5 scale for about 2yrs and have been offered a Band 6 post but they are offering me only one scale up. Is this how it works in the NHS? Dont they take into consideration my previous experience. I'm just a bit surprise, anyone to shed some light on this matter? Would love to hear the word on the street

The guide for Foreign nurses wanting to work in Canada
5cats, I want to believe the original poster simply found the whole thing confusing, what's so difficult to understand in that - come on now! Loads of "ridiculous", repetitive questions are asked on here daily, but these things are important to the person asking and I personally believe if individuals do not share the person's view or can not help, then they should just leave the thread alone, allow someone who can assist to deal with that thread. You should not feel that you have to respond to everyone - We are nurses for heaven sake, we ought to show more of our caring side in this forum not just at work to our patients. Our colleagues need our help, let's just give it nicely or not at all.

you made me laugh with all that "thingie", i'm glad you feel encouraged- we all need that every now and then. the book is "davis' nclex-rn success" by sally lagerquist, mcmillin etal great book i tell you, the amount of information can become overwhelming but the questions are spot on, if you know what i mean. all the best for february, try not to extent to march, if you are like me the process will get boring.

January NCLEX Study Group!
i had the same problem; not just that i'm not a morning person but also the test center is an hour drive from my home then i'd have to take the underground, which means i'd have to leave home extra early. what i did was, i selected the date that i felt comfortable with and just went for it. however, if you do have alot of time then i'd advise you to choose your date less you loose out on it again. once you are ready pedsnurze, don't delay just go for it, do it while the info is hot. just thought i'd share that, i did the exam yesterday, got 75q, found my name on the bon site; i'm really thankful to you all on this site, the support and general info was amazing. however, just thought that i would also share that "davis' nclex rn success" is the best kept secret - trust me, i'm almost sure that some of the questions were taken from that book. god has been good, i just can't praise him enough for this success. i failed on my first take in 09/08 and was so crushed, it took me this long to regroup and go at it again. i'm truly happy i did. i don't believe i'm special, so what i'm saying is; if i can do it, so can everyone else, because i classify myself as an average student. in my final preparation test i got 53%, but i was not discouraged, i told myself, i'm happy that now is the time i got it and not on the actual exam, so i read my rationales and lay it to rest. guys, there is no question as to if we can do it, it's just a matter of when. i went in the exam prepared to go all the way 265q like i did the first time but it wasn't to be. please think positive, we can be our worst enemy. best wishes to all of you. i'll continue to pray.
