We were on a 2-hour delay today so you would think it would be nice and quiet today... Not so much. I've had vomiting, RLQ pain, head lice, sinus issues, etc... The afternoon may be a bit more quiet, as the elementary kids are attending a choir performance at the Middle School...

We had a little snow last night and NO delay - so all the kids that stayed up late last night are packing my office because they are tired. Good lord, these kids see a dusting and think school will be closed for a week...

you know, I cursed myself! :lol2: right after I posted that I got slammed again!

Oh well, keeps me busy! :)

Strangely enough, kind of quiet....I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop!

I'm in the middle of a Pertussis outbreak--I'm looking forward to break so everyone can keep their germs to themselves!

I was just thinking of the post where someone asked what percentage of our work is Public Health--I came to this job from Public Health and during this outbreak and the H1N1 last year--that PH experience has served me well--plus I have a great relationship with my local Health Dept since I used to work with everyone there.

Hang in there, break is coming!

The thought of a pertussis outbreak makes me physically ill. I for one, blame Jenny McCarthy.

Hang in there Schooldistrictnurse, and enjoy your much needed break!

I had an outbreak of GI illness last week and the week before. Seems to be slowing down. For a while it was like a trash can parade to the nurse's office.

Chiefswife, I am in Wisconsin. We have historically been high in the rate of pertussis--so much so that within the last 4 yrs or so a Tdap booster has been phased in as a school requirement starting in 6th grade. Mix together the waning immunity of 5th graders, non-vaccinated children and not 100% effective vaccines, and there you go. The symptoms we've seen have been pretty classic--starts like a cold with a cough that just hangs on--usually 2 wk duration, worse at night, cold meds don't help, coughing "jags" with some inability to catch the breath in between, sometimes coughing so hard that the child vomits. The first three cases were PCR positive but once we sent the all-district letter, docs aren't testing, just treating. Usually the whole family is prophylaxed. We closed a building with H1N1, so this has been less severe than that. Just enough to mess up those good intentions to work on vision screenings!
