I would just like to say that I've noticed a lot of 'snotty' 'sarcastic' comments to a lot of the posts on the site. Is that really necessary?? This is supposed to be a supportive, informative place, not a cynical, negative place.
1st off I would like to say I love AN and I am so glad I have found the site, it has been very helpful and learn so much from the forums and threads. I do however find with the net in general, not necessarily AN, that often post are mis-interpretted or the tone that is persieved is not necessarily what the OP was intending. Everyone is entitiled to thier own opinions but I think it is how some things are written that can be taken as offensive.
I lurked here for long time before I became a member. I have learned whose opinion I value and whose opinion I could give two hoots about! Yes, there does seem to be a small amount of members who
love a good fight even when it is not called for. I have been flamed a few times because the member reading my post didn't understand the full context of my response.
My favorites are the "near" trolls! They are members here on allnurses, but I never see any any evidence of any medical knowledge, at all. (I do not mean students) There is actually an ongoing thread (about 7-8 pages by now) that is obviously a troll, sitting at a computer, laughing their butt off at all the responses. Oh well JMO!
The great thing about allnurses is you can move on to a new thread. You have thousands to choose from!
:grpwlcm: DylansMama!!...and post at your own risk:yeah:
I'm really new to the site, but I have to say that I haven't really seen too much of the snotty stuff. I think it can be hard to interpret sometimes, but for the most part, I think everyone is very helpful.
If you want to see nastiness, check out the weight watchers board. Talk about some mean people.:angryfire

Oh, which thread. I want to read it. It should be entertaining.
You also need to remember that the written word is unable to show the tone of voice so what reads like a 'snotty' remark isn't in fact what the poster mean.Humour doesn't always come across well when written.
that's a valid point.
and rather than retorting w/a knee-jerk reaction, it's important to ask the poster for clarification.
and, as someone else brought up, some people may consider those who are straightforward, as rude and offensive.
it's important to take a response in its context, rather than reading into it.
as for an's, it is indeed home for me.
staff/admins are more than willing to listen to our grievances, and moderation is kept to a minimum.
it's all about a place to hang out and share our stories...
respectfully.
as for the troublemakers, they don't last here.
either they change their tune, leave, or are banned.
simple as that.
i'm a happy camper.:)

I agree with the OP. I have found that people on here are just ready to "pounce". Some people just like to argue for the sake of arguing I think. You have to really watch how you word things or you will quickly be attacked, corrected, or one-upped. Not everyone is like that, but some are. My husband even reads these with me sometimes and he said, "Are you sure you want to be a nurse and work with people like this?". Maybe nursing itself gives you tough skin, I don't know. But many, many people on here are very friendly and helpful. I guess you just have to let it all roll off your shoulder and be the better person.
I have to agree also. There are a certain few (just like in any workplace) that think their opinions are 'the way it is'- & are VERY condescending. If I get a harsh answer or flamed, I don't justify that ignorance w/a reply. The majority of posts here are not that way, but w/some threads it's like 'walking on eggshells' & you can just imagine what some people are like to work with. Fortunately that is the exception in the workplace too!

You hit the nail on the head- I have dropped out of some threads b/c of the anger & attitude coming across from some posters- not worth my time or energy!!

I think that most people have a tendency to be more argumentative and maybe more straightforward on forums than they are in real life. So yeah, the responses you get online are often a lot more, um, direct? succinct? LOL. plain old rude?
That said, I think that allnurses is really mellow and I think that the moderation is just about perfect. Not too little and not too much.
