I would just like to say that I've noticed a lot of 'snotty' 'sarcastic' comments to a lot of the posts on the site. Is that really necessary?? This is supposed to be a supportive, informative place, not a cynical, negative place.
I think when reading things on the internet it is not always possible to discern a person's tone. Without knowing that person or where they are from, etc etc. Things get misinterpreted all the time. I know because I am a New Yorker who moved to the South!!!!! :-)
I can totally empathize with you!!!
My experience for what's it worth is that I need to look at the big picture. When I cruise through the hundreds of posts made daily the overwhelming majority of them are either positive, or neutral in tone. Yes, some are snotty and sarcastic. It's easy to let those overshadow others, especially if they are being snotty and sarcastic to me.
I try not to let the negative posts overshadow the many many many posts of people offering one another advice and support. How many times have someone posted "I made an error and I'm devasted"......to get dozens of posts offering understanding and support, rather than judgement. How many posts have people asked questions about practice and gotten an answer. How many people have been "eaten by their elders" and received advice?
Seriously the good and neutral far far outnumber any negativity (acknowledging yes there are negative sarcastic people here, just like in real life) in my eyes.
To start with, I apologise to anyone I have offended with unnessary sarcasm in my posts. I tend to have a bit of a dry sense of humor and have said and typed things I later wished I hadn't.
That being said I would hate to have this forum become nothing but warm fuzzy bunny hugs to all us poor fragile nurses. If someone asks for opinions about an action they took, and I think they were grossly wrong in that action, I'm going to be honest in my post and say so. If I'm being an idiot, and am way off base, I expect people to reply to me honestly. I would rather have honest criticism than false praise. I have rarely seen replies that were scathing even when the post may have warrented a nippy reply. I enjoy AN and wouldn't change a thing.
