I've been told not to study past 10pm the night before an exam, but sometimes I stay up until 1am or a little later going over some things. I've been doing it a lot lately. haha I have been doing well on my exams though, so it depends if you can retain all of that information in such a short amount of time.

In our rest/ sleep/ activity lecture someone brought up a new study that found if you study before bed (regular bedtime) your REM sleep will help you sort the info out and commit it to memory. I'm not sure how much that helps the night before though :-)
Our professor says she always woke up early the morning of an exam to cram, so I don't think she will be giving us any study tips.
I am generally ready by the night before an exam but still can't help but look over the material. I don't think I'll ever feel over prepared lol

Exactly you are so right about that, we can never be to prepared for an examination.

:yeahthat:You did summarize that well!If you haven't learned it already, you're probably not going to learn it the night before. Review the night before, and right before if it helps you, but it should just be a review, to get things more firmly fixed in your brain. Staying up all night the night before is a really bad idea. I've known of people falling asleep and sleeping through the test, trying to do that. Sabby's suggestion of getting in some relaxation time the night before is a good one. So is the suggestion of getting a good night's sleep. Good luck to all of you students!:studyowl:

I don't do ALL of my stdying the night before or a few hours before (usually). Bt after you have read the material and notes a good cram session right before can do wonders to help keep the itty bitty details in the forefront of your mind.

I study for the days coming up to the exam, but I DO study the night before, and stay up about an hour later than usual, and then i get to class about 45 mins early and study at my desk, right up until the teacher says "clear your desks im about to pass out the tests." and i cant tell you how many times, I've come to a question, that I might not have quite remembered b/c of alot of detail, but I remember b/c I just read it. Works for my every time, I'm a very good crammer, but I retain most of the information also.

I have never heard anyone say that. I never cram right before an exam but I do study that day before and the day of. I like to get to school early before an exam and relax for a little while as I look over my notes one last time. It does seem to help.

I usually pulled an all-nighter the night before an exam..and I graduated magna cum laude so it worked for me.

Yep, I do.. and if I'm still having trouble remembering something, I write it on a piece of paper and review that right before the test. It helps me.

Who told you not to study the night before the exam? Are they crazy? Have they been in the real world? Do they actually know anything about memory? Hmmm....I wonder. Studying (reviewing) the material one last time the night before an exam can be very important in refreshing your memory about things you haven't seen in several days. This should not be the time to learn new material, but should be the time to look over older material to bring it out of your memory storage banks and have the information readily available for the test. Reviewing the material a day before the test will do just this. It is also important to get a good night sleep to ensure you are well rested. So, whoever told you to not study the day/night before a test should have their head examined.
