I feel like I wasted my time, every place I go it's the same story. I even got hired pier diem and then told the week after we can't bring you on because you are a new nurse. I seriously don't get this at all i have hit the grown running every nursing home every rehab or ltc and it's the same thing no experience we can't hire you. Can someone explain where do they expect you to get this experience they o so desire. So ****** off right now. This is so discouraging.
Remember also its not just nurses it's everyone everywhere right now. If unemployment is 10%+ over the board then this is going to happen. Overall nurses have it a little easier for the most part we can get jobs even if they are crappy jobs that pay less than we would like but they are better than the minimum wage jobs many college graduates get.
It's not because your not good enough or not unwant-able it's just that the universe is random sometimes and you graduated in an unlucky year.
I too tire of all the "can't get a job" threads. How about the "what I am doing to get a job" support threads. Thats what truly helped me when I was looked. It beats the heck out of all the threads regarding "evil" nursing schools and hospitals conspiring to keep a good nurse down.
I'll give anyone on AN support all day long but I'm not participating in a pity party.
You can get a job. You will get a job.
Oh goosh, I know exactly how you feel. I graduated in May of 2011 with a BSN, and shortly after passed my boards. And till this day I remain unemployed!!! Every last single place requires that you have at least one year experience. I live in PA and I just don't know what else to do.
PA is particularly difficult for new grads, especially the Phila area. Most of my class from 2010 - including me - are not working in nursing. Volunteering seems not to be an option: All of the places I've contacted, mostly clinics in medically underserved areas, are interested right up to the point that they find out I'm an RN.
Things will change, but slowly.
Yes you are most certainly right I graduated from school in Dec '10.I live in Philadelphia,I have neither gotten a call or an interview. But being told good luck,or we need experience,so I tried applying out of Philadelphia since I got quite frustrated & feared that I'll ultimately loss all the skills I learned.I applied for a job at Berwick Hospital & I thought it was rather rude that the lady stated she taught my application was a mistake since its 2hrs away & asked if I could not get a job in Philadelphia.I got an interview in Reading last Friday,my first hopefully I get the job,I really want to be a LPN.PA is particularly difficult for new grads, especially the Phila area. After searching for nearly 9 months, I was finally offered a position in a Philadelphia hospital of my choice. I am very grateful and I can finally begin my nursing career. Thank you all for the encouraging words. And for those who are still in search of employment, please don't give up because your opportunity will be granted soon
Ur right He doesn't pay the bills but He provides ungrateful people like urself the money to do so
khrissi17. Honey. You have to remember this is a global board and not everyone here believes in God. So in my point of view God does not pay my bills. Tothepointe does. Doesn't make me ungrateful for what I have it just means I don't believe in the Christian God.
A comment like above just shows ignorance IMHO.
Robin RN. CONGRATULATIONS! It was a hard fought fight.

I'm a new nurse too, and I was able to find a job outside of were I live. If possible you might have to expand your search, and work in a different county. I got a job on a Behavioral Health unit, and I'm happy because this is the job I wanted. I also got a job offer from a nursing home, but you would be in charge of like 40 patients. I feel that this is just too much for me to handle as a new nurse with no med-surg background. Goodluck and do not give up.
