Hi everyone! I just wanted to start a thread for everyone who is waiting on an acceptance letter from wcccd. The wait is really getting to me and I need to know I'm not the only impatient one!
yes everything has 2 b redone 4 fall. letters of recommendations, background check, u can use the same essay. she also suggested i retake A&P (had a B) retake soc. which i tool years ago at WSU and got a C and she suggested i take HSC200 (lifespan). i'm going to call her again 2morrow, becuz on the sheet she wrote out 4 me, it said to attend June's meeting after i have received A's in everything, and in other words if i don't receive A's then don't even bother becuz i don't think that 3.7 gpa is going nowhere fast.
When I went to the information meeting they stated it will be on a point system and that the deadline for Fall 09 admission will be on February 26 and for Spring 2010 June 30th. I wondering if they changed it again. I wish they will make their minds up. If you are reapplying then all you really have to do is ICHAT and bring in an updated transcript. I didn't even have attend another application meeting this time. I just had to bring my updates in by September 30th. But you are only allowed to renew your application once after that you have to do the whole application process over again. That's why I attended another information meeting so I could already have that done.
I am sorry to hear that some of you did not get in. I just went to an application meeting November 5th and the dates they gave us were... Feburary 26th for application meeting for Fall 09 and June 30th for application meeting for Spring 10.
The other big change was that the reading comprehension was 50 is now 59. The composite score of 61 stayed the same.
I am on the list for HFCC and may go to EMU seems like to many hoops to jump through for WCCCD.
Again sorry for those that got sad letters, I have been checking the boards for the last few weeks and was excited to see if you all got in also.
:heartbeat
Too many hoops to jump through to get in?
If you step back and look at the big picture you will see that there is a huge surge in applicants trying to get into nursing, especially in this state.
Of course it is disappointing that some people do not get into the program, but please don't blame the school for that.
120 people did get in because they had competitive grades (being that the gpa on the application is the biggest, if not only predictor of successful entry into their program).
The school is driven by getting successful applicants that pass NCLEX. If they don't have any success with that, they should look forward to recieving a call/letter from the State Board of Nursing. Because of that fact, and the fact they don't have a waiting list, they lean on the gpa for entry. Everyone that applies is aware of this fact. Other schools do not have this protocol, but do have waiting list. It's one or the other--wait for a spot for 2-3 years VS. high gpa and get in sooner.
The reason that the gpa is so high (3.7 it appears from posters) is that people are aware of how competitive the program is and either get all 4.0's the first time, or complete the pre-req's until they have gotten high grades in all cases (which in this case requires having A's in most/all classes.
This is a highly competitive career choice right now and people need to be aware of this fact and expect high competition because of a limited amount of slots in nursing programs.
I'm not saying the school is perfect, because it is not--just like ANY OTHER SCHOOL. But I will say that their system of admitting students into the program is pretty cut and dry. Unfortunately not everyone can get in the first time, but this is hardly the school holding out good students--they just have a very large insurgency of good applicants and have to pare down the applicants somehow (in this case it is gpa)
I agree with TBICU. You can't blame the school for everything. You are all entering a field that is cut-throat. There is a huge demand for nurses, but it is INCREDIBLY competitive. The GPA is what keeps us from having an incredibly long wait list. I worked my butt off for a 4.0 to apply and it paid off. Transferring schools will not solve all the problems, because I promise there will be something you don't like everywhere. I am not trying to be negative I am just telling you what I have learned.
Nobody is trying to suppress your right to free speech on this discussion board. What Zembalina and myself were trying to do was give you our views from within the program and what it takes to successfully enter the program. We are not here to critique anyone; the goal is to help people achieve their goals, and perhaps, use insight from those that have already taken the path. Nothing more, nothing less.
120 people got in because they were still allowing transfer students to apply without taking the 12 credit hours. They said at the info meeting that for spring 09 applicants would have to have a minimum of 12 credit hours at WCCCD to apply. So they lied. I have a very competitive GPA at 3.5, and I'm proud of it. I worked just as hard as someone with a 4.0. They just can't seem to get it together at WCCCD. Telling us one thing then doing another is uncalled for. If I would have known they were still letting transfer students come in, I would have waited to apply. THAT is why we didn't get in. Not because we didn't have competitive GPA's. It's not like we're complaining about not getting in and we have a 2.7 or something.
