Hi everyone! I just wanted to start a thread for everyone who is waiting on an acceptance letter from wcccd. The wait is really getting to me and I need to know I'm not the only impatient one!
Hoopes= You need 12 credit hours, no you don't, get 51 on Net ,no now you need 58, 3 A's and 2 B's are good grades, not good enough, they go on GPA of pre-req's or maybe overall if that is better or maybe this time we will give you credit for past experience, but now have all your co-req's done too and we will give you special consideration.
Is that explanation enough? I have been following these people on here and was very sad to hear that some did not make and empathized because I know how bad I will feel if I do not get in.
I work full time, have 4 kids and go to school and I think that thew grades I get are well deserved! And I have a right to express my opnion if I choose. Go ahead and express yours just don't question me in the process.
I am fully aware that it takes hard work and deitcation for nursing and would not want some slacker that just made it in to be my nurse but just because you get 4.0 does not mean that you will be a great nurse.
i agree with all the post, as i am happy for all that got accepted to wccc, it is discouraging when you have a 3.5 and they are not accepting anything less than a 3.7. i was not accepted for the fall of 07 and was told to take four C classes over and get all A's in them, well i got three A's and one B. but before i even applied with my 3.5 in coprereq's i was told by Mrs. B. that as long as i had A's and B's in my prereq's, took all my prereq's with them ad had medical back ground exp. then i was good to go. then i don't get accepted because they went solely based on gpa alone and nothing else mattered, that is what ****** me off. now they are saying that the point system does not start until the fall of 09, well i would not have applied . now i have to take another class over (A&P, which i already received a B in and get an A, plus retake Soc. and take Hsc 200 to be considered for spring 2010. then on top of all that wccc changed the deadlines which pushes me back a whole year!!! becuz i will miss the Feb. deadline!!! it just seem like i'm never going to get accepted!!!!
Well I've had it with WCCCD. I'm not even going to attempt to try for Spring of 10. That's just crazy. I'm applying to the July LPN program at Toledo School of Practical Nursing. I'll be done in June of 10. Then I'm going to HFCC for their LPN to RN bridge program. The only thing I'm doing at WCCCD for this spring is taking A & P 2 over (HFCC doesn't accept a&p2 from Baker which is where I took it), and Chemistry. Then I'll be good to go for my RN. I am not going to sit around waiting till spring of 10 to even get started in a nursing program! WCCCD needs to get it together, they're going to turn a lot of people off.
hey missalissa777, i am just as frustrated!!! trying to get my husband to understand is even more frustrating. i am also taking A&P over this semester, all the while trying to justify retaking a class over that i received a B in for a A. can u give me more info on the school in toledo? i truly don't know what 2 do anymore, because i feel if i pull my gpa up to a 3.7 what will be next? i would like to try and stick with wccc becuz they say they are startin their point system, but i am still mad as hell becuz i'll have 2 try and come up with the money to pay my past due balance and try and juggle 3 classes this semester, while working full time (with no supportive husband) i thought this would have been all over by now. and even if i do successfully get A's in all three, what do i do to pass the time for the summer and fall semester until school starts in jan. 2010 (if i get n) messing around with wccc my net test is expiring in feb.09 and now i have to take that over in april. i thought my life was taking a turn for the better but it's just the opposite, oh well maybe i can find a school where the NET test last longer than 2 years. i'm just venting, becuz this is just a daily argument with my husband for the next year justifying deaing with wcccd!
If you all are frustrated and unhappy with WCCCD, I hope that it does not stop or discourage you from reaching your goal of becoming a nurse. If you truly want it don't let anything or anybody stop you from achieving your goals.
Venting is good, it keeps us from hurting people. LOL
Nursing school is extremely frustrating with changing deadlines, vague directions from instructors and administration, clinical sites change dates and times at the last minute, exams or care plans every other week, 5-10 chapters to read and learn each week, dealing with staff nurses, I could go on and on. But with the frustration comes strength to endure and continue on to my goals. I wish all of you much success!:heartbeat

I know... My husband thought for sure I'd be in this semester. I told him about the 12 credit hour thing and even he's ****** off about it! I just can't sit here and wait another year. I need to graduate and make some real money already. I'm an CMA but I really don't make any more than a manager at Taco Bell, lol. My husband makes good money, but I want to be done with school so he can go back to school. Right now his job keeps him out of state a lot. He's in Tampa till February. If I could get done with school, he could go back and get a degree and be home more. It is so frustrating because it seems like no matter what I do I can't get ahead. I transferred from Baker to WCCCD thinking I had a better shot cuz there was no wait. Funny. I will not be ashamed of my 3.5, I'm damn proud of it. Anyway, sorry about the rant.
The LPN program starts July of 09, and ends June of 10. You have to apply to the school, take their version of the NET, and get your CNA certification which takes 2 weeks. I asked them if I could skip it cuz I was already an MA they said no. But it's only 2 weeks. You don't have to take it through them, you just have to get your certification before you can start the program. You also have to take a basic computer class, but if you took it elsewhere your transcript is fine. I mapquested it, and it's 48 minutes from my house in Wyandotte. The hours of the day program are M-F 8 to 2:30 and clinical days are 6:30-2:30. The tuition is 11,000, plus a $400 out of state fee. The tuition includes books, malpractice insurance and licensure testing. They offer financial aid, and they have clinical sites in Michigan. Their phone number is 419-671-8706.
I think this will be a better route in the long run for me. Instead of waiting at least I'll be doing something productive and getting experience. As long as you pass the test you can get a license to practice in Michigan. If you call they will send you all the info you need to apply!
Well I am right along with you all. I reapplied this time b/c they told me the 12 credit hour rule was going to apply then after applications were in they changed there minds and decided to let all these transfer students in anyways. Now I have to do the whole application process aver again when I could have just waited and reapplied for Fall 09. I went to two information meeting to be for sure that transfer students would have to have 12 credit hours and was told you must have 12 credits hours before you could apply to WCCCD nursing program. I even acted as if I wasn't a student their and was told the same thing. There's noway I am spending another dime with WCCCD. Nursing is my goal but having a 3.52 and not getting accepted is just a little over the top. I'm not even an alternate what kind of craziness is that. I have A's and B's in every single class taht is required for the school. Now my life is at a complete set back because WCCCD said one thing and did another. They have no perks for their students and now they want to change their application process after they have set my life back a whole year. I do blame the school because if they at least had a wait list at leadt I would know at one point or another that I will get in. Retake this, retake that for what for them to change their minds again. I will no longer put all my eggs in one basket. I'm so confused as to what to do now. I just needed to vent.

I want everyone one to know that it is not only the transfer students that are getting extremely high GPAs. When I entered the program the lowest GPA was 3.44 and that was with WCCCD and non-WCCCD students. But the majority of the students in my class (I am in the 3rd semester of the program) are WCCCD and we all applied with extremely high GPAs.
I think the thing is not the transfer coming in but people realizing that a high GPA is critical for admission to the program. The more A's the better.
Also, 3.5 and above GPAs are very commendable and nothing to be ashamed of. Just know that the program is extremely competitive and WCCCD students are realizing that. Although, it was deceiving to say that the 12 credit policy went into effect when it actually didn't but I wonder how many transfer students actually got in because from what I understand there were not a lot of people at the application meetings.
Congrats to all that got accepted and to the others don't get discouraged continue working towards your dream, whether you pursue your goal at WCCCD or somewhere else.
