I was taking one resident's blood pressure before pulling her meds. When I was done, she said, "Let me kiss you on the jaw." She did, then I kissed her on the forehead - our morning routine.
I was getting ready to go get her meds when, from across the room, I heard, "Hey, come here. Hey you!! Come over here." Now, this other resident has a reputation of being cranky and sometimes, downright mean. I've never had problems with her, but other members on the staff have.
I went over to her and kindly asked what she needed. "Do that to me," she asked. All she wanted was a kiss. My heart just melted. It made my entire day and even now, when I remember it, I smile.

you see???
even the crankiest of patients need a little love and affection.
they just hold off until they find someone they can trust.
kudos to you for being one of the approachable ones.:redbeathe :redbeathe :redbeathe

awww...that really is nice! kindness goes a long way in nursing. that is all anyone needs is to know they are cared about. especially in a long term care facility. keep giving her affection everyday...she loves it!

Aww, you brought tears to my eyes.
Maybe she's cranky and mean because no one comes to see her - maybe there's no one TO come see her anymore. Maybe she lost a child many years ago. Maybe her parents died many years ago and she's been an orphan most of her life. And if any of that is the case, just maybe she saw something in you at that moment that touched her, just as her request touched you.
Bless you both. I think you've got another "grandma" of the heart now. :loveya:
