Hello! Wow....It has been a while since I last posted and visited this site. It feels good to be back! An urban legend I have have heard happens in surgery. Evidentally, once a patient signs the papers to have the surgery done, the surgeon can do anything he sees fit. Rumor also has it that residents can come into surgery and have come into surgery to practice doing lady partsl exams on the unconscious patient. One pediatrician I work with, swears up and down that this actually happens! WOW! I would feel so violated! I would think that would be against a code of ethics! Next time I have surgery, I am definately going to make sure that does not happen by clarifying it with the surgeon. I sure hope there is not truth to this! (N) KuteNurse

Diane, In the state of Minnesota (I don't know what it is other states), MA's cannot call themselves nurse. The training for a nurse and an MA are completely different. Yes you can administer shots and do various other office duties, but you are NOT a nurse. Check with your licensure and ask them and they will tell you exactly the same thing. I do think MA's do a great job in the medical field. But you are not a nurse. If you decide to go back to school for nursing, you will see a distinct difference! Good luck to you! KN

Hep B vaccine is a series of three shots. All three doses are the same. To develop full immunity to Hep B, it takes all three shots. The first is given, then one month after the first, the second can be given. The third should be given about 4-6 months after the second dose. Kinda a pain, but well worth it in the end. Hep A is a 2 dose series...First one given, 6 months later, second dose is given. I really hope they are working on a Hep C vaccine. I have not heard anything on it though. I believe Merck makes the Hep B and Hep A series. Did you know that Hep A is as easy to get in certain places like Mexico as drinking a glass of water or eating lunch? The Hep A virus lives right in water and food! How scary is that! Always make sure to go to a travel center to get the correct vaccinations before traveling. KN

well, i have been in touch with my recruiter 3 times in the last week...lol i hope that is not too often! however, it is harder to find travel jobs as an lpn than it is as an rn. i would call. recruiters are not hr remember. they are there to find us jobs. i think if you have a question, you should feel comfortable enough to call. good luck! kn

your health comes first dear, no one is going to take care of you except for yourself. you do have a lot of responsibilities and the most important is to take care of your children. who will take care of them if you are sick? so take care of yourself now so you can be there for them:) kn

i don't see a thing wrong with it. if the patient's are asked first for permission, why not? it would be good for all. the heck with hippa...lol what happened to the old nursing where we as nurses are there to cheer patients up??? it is healthy for children to see sick people. a learning experience for them as well as having a satisfaction of knowing they are doing something good for others. i really think we have to move back to this. afterall, we no longer wear starched white uniforms and hats. things have laxed in nursing to suit the needs of our patients. i say go for it! great opportunity for all. kn

Why not do both? Is there a possibility of taking on two part time jobs? Just a suggestion. I personally love the clinic setting. The hours are much better and the stress levels are lower. But no benefits in the clinic? I get awesome benefits working in a clinic. Do your research, take your time and check things out. Make a list of priorities in a job that you want. hello! yikes, this is a touchy subject. i am nursing in the state of minnesota. there is a small percentage of african-american nurses where i work, but not many. i am in a clinic setting. i am thinking it is the area you live in? where there are higher percentages of minorities. just keep praying and keep a positive attitude and things will turn out the way they are meant to be. i sincerely hope you get the job that you dream of. kn

WOW! When you are sick you are sick! Nothing you can do about it. You should have ben able to stay home when you are not feeling well. I had to work through illness also. I felt terrible because I am exposed to premie infants who I could potentially get REALLY sick. BUt my supervisor also does not care most of the time. I would think people can understand, especially when supervisors are nurses themselves! Good luck!

Awwww....What you need right now is just take care of yourself. No one will do it for you. Find something that you really enjoy doing and do it full force. I don't know how far into nursing school you are? But, I don't think you should give up on your dreams. Take the meds as prescribed for now, this will give you the time you need to think about starting a family. You are still young and you have plenty of time to decide what you want in life. Most importantly, take care of yourself! I am in a similiar situation. I also have depression, mine is seasonal though. I live in Minnesota where the sun rarely shines during the winter months. That is really sad that someone would be sick enough to do something like that. I would contact the principle of his school and find out who it was. This child should be banned from going to school. Definately as stated above, have him tested just to be safe. I am not sure what is happening in school these days, I do not remember any of this kind of stuff happening when I was in school. Times have sure changed!

WOW! I am sorry people are like that. It is a shame that a few people ruin it for everyone. I would DEFINATELY report her, document everything that was said etc...I would have someone walk to your car with you also. Do you have security on the site? This kind of thing probably should even be reported to your local police if she was that threatening. No one should be afraid to go to work. It is terrifying to think of what care she is delivering to patients if she is doing that to YOU! Good luck with this. Let us know what the outcome is. I would be curious. KN

LOL! I love the TV tray idea. I may just do that...Seriously! haha Yes we have a desk area now. But we move around, it isn't our own desk station. But there is plenty of room for everyone. When we move to the new building, every one of the nurses will have their own desk except for me. But the doc gets his shower! lol We all know how important it is to have a shower in a pediatric clinic now don't we? I vote...Just give the nurse a desk! lol Sorry if I sound a bit bitter. It would just be nice knowing I am appreciated enough at work to have my own desk like everyone else! KN

Check with your local community college. They usually have a CNA program and can give you information when the classtime starts. Good Luck!!!
