thanks for your input. It is in NYS. The surgeon has 2 ORs going at once. 2 anesthesiologists. But just 1 RN. She is not able to be in the room since she is recovering other pts and preop pts as well. So wouldnt the liability fall on the MD, if something went wrong? I told her to discuss with him that she is not allowed to fill out circulating record unless she is in the room at all times. She makes great money at this practice and does not want to jeopardize her job, but I told her to worry about her license!

Just wanted to get some feedback from other OR nurses out there. I know a fellow nurse who works for a surgeon who has 2 operating rooms within his practice. During a case he has an anesthesiologist, medical assistants or techs assisting with procedures. He expects her to fill out circulating paperwork even though she is not present during the case. Positioning, final count etc! She believes she is not liable since she fills out the paperwork but does not sign her name. The surgeon tells her no one else in the procedure is allowed to fill out these forms. She is busy pre-op pts and recovering pts. I told her she is crazy for doing this that she can lose her license. Just wanted to hear some feedback about this. Thanks:confused:

just curious what the home care agency is paying you. I also did it through an agency and they made all the money. You can get jobs from Lifeplans Inc. or Long Term Solutions and they will set you up an as independent contractor. If they are affiliated with the agency you work for, you will have to not do assessments for that agency for 6 mos. and then LTS or LP can hire you directly. Hope this helps

Hi I graduated from SCC Ammerman a few years ago. I started in the Brentwood campus, then switched to nights at Ammerman, then got impatient and wanted to graduate already and went back to days. I thought it was a great program. As you will learn there are always certain professors to stay away from. If you give me the professors names I can tell you the good ones. Also for the clinicals too. I can;t remember all of them. If you can take Health assessment over the summer do it. Also I took medical micro at Farmingdale, I think it was 5x week, evenings, maybe for 4 weeks. Much better than regular micro. The class usually got out early. FYI I graduated a few years ago and currently work as a clinical supervisor in Manhattan at an ambulatory center. $$$ is great. I do not have my BSN.. You just need the confidence to do any thing. Hi everyone I have recently been working an extra job for an agency that has me assessing individuals in private residences or long term care facilities, who have long term care insurance. The fee that they pay me is about 1/4 of what they actually bill. Since it is plenty of paperwork after the visit, plus gas etc..I thought why not do this as my own business. I do know other RNs who would love to make the extra cash. Plus the thought of being in charge of my own business sounds like a great challenge. I do love meeting the families and clients. I am very compassionate since I have been down that road before with some family members. Any one have any ideas or suggestions. Please let me know. Thanks:redbeathe

Hi Everyone..I took my NCLEX on 4/25 for the 2nd time. Passed at 86 questions! I did Suzannes plan exactly and I wish that I had done that the first time. Plus I was not at all nervous, I just kept telling myself its only a test, I can take it again. I did not open a book the night before. When I got into the exam center I wrote all of my labs values and tips for remembering calculations on the board immediately. Suprised that 75% of the exam was Select all that apply. Which is the one area that I tought was not my strongest. Yes, it will be a great summer. Good luck to all of you

Great idea! I too work for a plastic surgeon and see the high demand for private duty nursing for patients. Most of the patients want to be pampered and want the privacy of a private duty nurse. i am looking into starting my own business as well. Let me know how far you have prospered with your ideas.. ANy feed back would be great. You know plastic surgery is just starting to boom on the medical field. I love that 99.9% of the patients are always happy afterward and I don't have to deal with terminal illnesses/dying. Marianne:up:

WAITING TO TAKE THE NCLEX NEXT MONTH:uhoh3: I CAN'T DECIDE WHETHER I SHOULD STAY AT MY CURRENT JOB IN A DERMATOLOGISTS OFFICE SALARY IS $30 HR, NO BENE OR WORK IN A HOSPITAL. I WORKED AS A CNA ALREADY IN A HOSPITAL ON A MED SURG FLOOR, AND YES WE WERE ALWAYS SHORT STAFFED AND OVER WORKED. I AM 45, SO DO I GO FOR THE HOSPITAL AND GET BURNT OUT AND STRESSED QUICKLY. OR WORK IN A DR OFFICE. I'M AFRAID THAT I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO PRACTICE WHAT I LEARNED IN SCHOOL. WOULD LIKE SOME ADVICE FROM THE PROS WHO HAVE BEEN OUT THERE AWHILE. THANKS

I am in a 2 year program and each semester we have 2 tries to pass a dosage calculation test. More than 2X and you are out of the program on your second try. Doesn't that sound very irrational since some students are pulling a 3.5 or higher GPA? I feel with today's shortage, the program should work with the student until they can manage the exam. I AM NOT SAYING THAT WE SHOULD LOWER OUR STANDARDS! Any feedback? I know how important Math is especially with all of the medication errors. Bottom line, you have to pass the NCLEX.
