  1. I do because I work in psych and most of the people I work with don't have medical problems. And when I put some on, I put on just a bit and lighter scents like splashes. I know that some of the more expensive stuff and heaview colognes do offend those who are sensitive to it. I haven't had any complaints against the body mists and cheaper colognes.
  2. I just wanted to say that I am so sorry that this has happened to you. And I applaude the great courage it took for you to come and tell your story. Maybe it will help others who are in the same situation. May God bless and keep you. You are in my prayers.
  3. Okay, ButterPecanRican, you must be a Wu-Tang fan. I'm Chocolate Deluxe mixed with a little French Vanilla. LOL!!! Just an inside thang for those that don't know. But, to answer you're question; No, I don't HATE nursing, but I do have a dislike for it at times. And it's all because the way things are now, a nurse can't do the job he/she would like to. You have Social Workers, Case Management, Doctors, PT, OT, lab, all trying to undermind you. No one listens to the nurses' judgement. Never mind that we are the ones that interact with the patient 99% of the time. Nobody values what we have to say. So, as a nurse, I often feel that my hands stay tied. Also, whoever let healthcare become business oriented needs their behind beat with a bamboo cane. It's put enormous pressure on us to discharge the patients too soon or cut corners to save money. The bottom line is all about money to these business-minded CEOs, COOs, Marketing people. I'm not saying that we can't save money when we're being wasteful. But we should never, ever push patients out of the door before we're ready. I feel that all healthcare facilities should be charity-run. That way, whatever the insurance doesn't cover, the hospital asorbs. That way, we don't have Case Management down our backs about getting patients out because the insurance will run out. And if one more unlicensed ancillary person tries to tell me what's best for my patient, I am going off. I went to school and was trained to take care of my patients. I don't appreciate every Joe having something to say. So, that's just the tip of the iceberg reasons as to why I am growing discontented with nursing.
  4. I know, sad isn't it? And before anyone dare disputes me, I have experienced this firsthand as a patient. The other weekend, I had to go to he ER due to rapid heart rate/anxiety. Being that I just started a new job, I am in between insurance coverage. I know I could have the COBRA coverage, but we all know that's too expensive for anyone to afford (what a joke). Well, to make a long story short, I was dismissed without my psychosocial needs even being addressed. They did an EKG, which showed a "slight abnormality" (probably respiratory sinus arrhythmia, I suspect), but the doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about. Thank God for that, but, I still felt that I could've had assessed my psychosocial status since that was one of my chief complaints. So, to this day, I am still dealing with unresolved anxiety. I guess, since I didn't have insurance, they didn't want to go too deep. You know, it is awful that just because doesn't have insurance they are not thoroughly treated. When a person gets sick, all they need to worry about is getting well. They don't need to hesitate to go get checked out just because they don't have insurance. And they definitely do not need to be worried about all of their assets being seized just because they got sick. Why, in this "great" country, are we still mistreating our citizens?
  5. No, this thread wasn't about racism, but I made it about that. And again, as I've said many times before, you're from the South, and I'm talking about people that you may or may not be like. That's why you feel the need to defend it. And sorry to inform you, but my life is not based on stereotypes. This is my experience I'm going on. I know that racist exist everywhere. The racism is more evident in the Northeast in my opinion. But, I'm talking about the Bible-thumpers of the South. Such hypocrites.
  6. I don't care how you feel about me calling people in the South racist. I call it how I see it. You may not want to acknowledge it, or you may not know. I mean, if you're not black or hispanic, you probably haven't experienced it. You may have even perpetuated it and didn't realize it. After all, racism is passed down from generation to generation. So some people may have been raised that way and not realize they are not supposed to be that way. But the truth be told, when the day is over, my family and I have experienced a lot of bigotry in my short life. And a lot of it has come from the so-called right-wing conservative Christian society of the South. So, it is a big deal to me and I feel like talking about it. If you haven't been one to be racist, then you shouldn't feel the need to defend the people I am referring to. It just makes me suspect that you have held some beliefs that you, a southerner are not as tolerant to certain groups of people as you should be. I know you may be saying, "How in the world did it come to this topic?" Well, when I hear a southern accent, it just reminds me of so many that choose to not like others because they are different. Are there racists in other parts of the U.S.? Of course, there are plenty. But do they claim to be the Bible Belt? Nope.
  7. Oh, you can hang your coat right there. True Christians need not be offended because they are not hypocrites. I am talking about the so-called southern Christians that claim to love God, but hate everyone in the process. I won't say what other attributes these perpertrators possess because they know who they are. That's who I'm referring to. How in the world can I be biased against Christians when I worship God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit just like any real Christian ought to? You have it twisted. But, you're right, I am biased. I'm biased towards racist people and the beliefs that they hold. I just can't stand people who are always claiming to be of God, but yet, they can't tolerate thier fellow man. This is a very prominent attitude in the South. How do I know? Because I live down here and I see it manifest itself in everyday interactions. The same people who attend church everytime the door opens are the ones that will be the first to condemn gays, minorities, northerners, anyone who is not like them. So, you misunderstood me. I'm not singling out every Christian, because like I said, I'm Christian, too. Real Christians won't be offended by what I'm saying because they know of what I speak. See, the Lord Jesus Christ told me to love my brother as myself. So that means I don't turn my nose up at others because they are a different color or because they don't hold separatist views like so many southerners do. I'm talking about southerners that claim to be holier than the rest of the country and yet are card carrying members of the KKK or other racist organizations. They need to stop claiming to be Christians. Oh!!! You have dear friends of all colors and religious backgrounds? Well good for you. That proves it. You are not a racist. Look, I don't know you so I can't judge you. But as I've said before, if I struck a nerve, then there is an ounce of truth to what I'm saying to you. And don't worry, I'll be sure to call it arrogance when I see it. Especially if it's coming from Kentucky.
  8. But it is and was interpreted that way because that's what was inferred. Of course, I see mostly southerners having offense to this. Well, usually people stay silent on issues until they hit home. The truth always does that to people.
  9. No, my friend. You're interpretation was right on the money. He/she said, "come on back to God's country". And since he/she was from the South, that's what they were referring to. And the others know it, too. They're just got outted and they can't deal with it.
  10. Oh my goodness. Thank you so much for your response on this. This is exactly what I told him/her. And a lot of this rhetoric is hypocritical seeing as how most of them are intolerant to anything outside of the South or it's beliefs.
  11. Yes, i sure do. I do have issues with racists. I don't like that way of thinking. You should have a problem with it, too. Or are you part of the problem youself? If not, then don't worry about it. I obviously hit a nerve. I say if the shoe doesn't fit, then don't wear it.
  12. And then you woke up!!! Look, I don't need you to tell me how well blacks and whites CAN get along because my dad is white and he and I get along just fine, thank you. And so what if the North has it's share of problems. I never said that they didn't. I'm saying, at least they don't claim to be the "Bible Belt" or "God's country" and harbor all that hate at the same time. I'm talkign about being hypocritical. These so-called Christians are the same ones that are racist in their beliefs. And I don't have to go anywhere. I'm going to stay right here and combat this on a personal level. And things are going to change or the South will continue to lag behind on everything.
  13. Pride does not equal arrongance; I know that. I never said that it did. But I also know arrogance when I see it.
  14. Yep. You were the only one or one of the few who took it that way. How in the world could he/she have meant "God's country" to mean a beautiful area when there is beauty all over America, not just the South? I took it as southern arrogance. I guess we all have different perceptions some things. But I have lived around it and I took it as that because I have heard it often.
  15. OMG!!! God's country? I know you're not talking about the South, particularly Alabama. I'm from Alabama and contrary to what people claim, this is NOT the Bible Belt. I hear so much about God this and God that. Well let me tell you, God doesn't condone all the racism that is perpetuated down here. Nothing has changed. Now, instead of the Klan, we have Bible-thumping racist is business suits and judicial robes. My dad is yankee and he's a liberal. I sometimes feel that that combination is worse than being black down here. And you know what, the South lost the war. But so many down here are still fighting it in their minds. This is the U.S. of A., all of it. And anybody can live where they choose. And a "yankee" can go anywhere and live anywhere, as well as a southerner. I get tired of all these boundaries when this is the UNITED (emphasis on the word "united" states of America. I feel those that cannot get with that idea and racial harmony should get themselves on a remote island somewhere in the Pacific and go live so they won't be bothered with the yankees and others. Sorry!!! I know that was off of the subject, but it kills how so many people down here claim to be Christian, yet, they cannot tolerate others that are not like them. I'm not personally attacking you.
