Not looking to pick on anyone, just though one central thread under a catch all heading would help to serve perhaps as a reference point.

1 - Failed one or two classes, but only by "X", points, why are programs so strict?

2 - Don't like dealing with human bodily fluids and or waste.....

3 - Don't understand why nursing math has to be so difficult. Afterall in the real world there are computers and caculators

4 - My life hasn't been entirely blameless, will that affect my chances of entering a NP or obtaining a license, and why should it make a difference?

5 - Have allot going on in my life at the moment (work, children, husband, family, etc), but my instructors won't cut me any slack, is this fair?

6 - Why to I have to learn nursing and or medical terms that aren't used anymore?

And.......

I want to be a nurse but:

I don't want to become a whinning, bit***ing, depressed, unhappy, bully, mean, unsupportive, lazy, backstabbing, money minded, robotic, "I cannot give you much report because I have to leave to pick up xxx or I have things to do" nurse :p

This is written in good faith and just for fun

I was fired for being too beautiful!

You too?? That's been an ongoing problem for me too.

Specializes in pulm/cardiology pcu, surgical onc.
Oh yeah ... I forgot that one ... Thanks for reminding me. You made me smile.

I almost fell out of my chair after writing it.

But my all time favorite is.....

Why do nurses eat their young?

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.
i was fired for being too beautiful!

"all my classmates hate me because i'm so beautiful; they're a bunch of mean, nasty backstabbers and they're the reason i flunked clinical!"

i want to be a nurse, but i won't clean up poop.

the aides will do that work.

leslie

Exzagly, what are the aides for

I want to be a nurse but...

I don't have the time to memorize meds or learn pathophys!!!

School seriously gets in the way of my social life if I study. So, I log on to Allnurses and post my homework/test questions as well as my research topics and guess what!? Those horrible people are so rude on Allnurses! ***'s up with them? They refuse to give me the information! This, even when I've put "HELP", "EMERGENCY", "NEED THIS NOW" in the title! Or even if I say I just had a lobotomy, which, makes school harder for me.... so uncaring :crying2:

Specializes in school nursing, ortho, trauma.

... i am torn and also am considering being a (doctor, lawyer, indian chief) what should i do?

... i want to be a school nurse to have my kid's schedule. i can do that right out of NS, right?

... i have a really bad back from a car accident. I won't have to do any lifting, right?

... but i need a day shift job from the start.

My clinical instructor unfairly failed me. It had nothing to do with my multiple med errors/constantly ignoring HIPPA/not even showing up for my final. I'm gonna sue!!

I can't work nights/weekends/holidays, I have kids/husband/a dog.

Or, once I have senority I'll never have to work nights/weekends/holidays. That should only take a few months!

The only good nurses do it because it is a calling. Wanting to be a nurse for any other reason means you are a terrible, horrible nurse.

I'm just going to do a direct entry MSN program so that I can skip the annoying bedside work and get a cushy NP job. I'm sure I won't have ANY problem getting a job with no experience.

The nurses here are mean and horrible for talking bad about demanding patients and their families. They must be bitter and burnt out. Did they forget we are supposed to holistically take care of all the patient's needs and the patient is just annoying because he's scared?

(I'm a student and I'm tired of hearing this, especially from prereq classmates. I used to get annoyed, now I just want some of whatever they're smoking. :smokin:)

Edit: Forgot this one. I'm going to do L&D/NICU because babies are just SO cute and it would be so much fun to just cuddle them and feed them all day! It would be the easiest job in the world.

Specializes in Hospice, corrections, psychiatry, rehab, LTC.

...I want to start working on my (insert name of advanced practice or graduate degree here) as soon as I finish my (ADN/BSN). Can you tell me how to do this without having to go to work as an RN first?

...I just finished my first semester of nursing school. Can you help me find a medical mission to go on? It would be so cool to help other people with all my skills and knowledge.

...Can you help me find an employer who hires every nurse who walks through the door? You see, I've had some problems with the law and I might wind up with a restricted license...

...Can you tell me the easiest schools to get into? I just got turned down for no reason by this program I applied to, and I know that nursing is my calling.

I had a mouth full of drink when I read this. You nearly owed my employer a new monitor! :)

Specializes in Dialysis, Home health.

"I so agree with that. I don't know why, but it bugs me when I see people posting who view nursing as a route to med school. They're two different careers "

Umm hello??

..."so I can work".....duh...

Has nothing to do with them being 2 different careers. Did you know that what nurses learn, Docs just learn more?? My ex is a doctor so I know. SO they are in the same body of knowledge. The Human body!

It's just smart.

If you're going to Med school though, you may not have time to work. Although even if you worked a very small amount of time, it would be worth it for the amount you would make as some sort of income. Very smart.

Like I did LPN, to work while I went to RN school. Now that I've graduated, I will work as an RN while I go to NP or PA school. ALl the while I've never been broke, living comfortably, and am accomplishing my goal. I don't particularly like the work of a nurse but in any sense it's doable.

Let me make it clear though that I am a compassionate, caring, etc... nurse. So I am not "shorting" the profession ( and give me a break, because if 90% of med surg nurses get "burned out" with it after several years then obviously they are that gung hoe about it in the 1st place).

If you stick to something through the good & bad, then you can boast about your profession. But if not then keep it to yourself.:uhoh3: Nonetheless, If I want to use the system to get to higher ground..then that's what I'll do. Do you..and don't worry about anyone else's stepping stone plan. My strategy works for me & what I want to accomplish.

Peace

re: I don't like body fluids (and I hope this isn't going to make me sound like one of those annoying wanna be nursing students)...

... does anyone really like them? I mean, I think I can handle working with body fluids, but I know there are some things I find gross. I do get grossed out far less easily than most of my friends. But, I'm assuming over time that nurses become more disgust-resistant? Or am I totally off-base? Also, I have been known to faint when I am a patient, but I don't have a problem when other people are going through medical procedures.
