Hi everyone, just curious about others opinion. A few times when visiting walmart, cashiers were wearing gloves. I asked what was the reason for doing so, and they did not want to say. I'm sure its for "avoiding" illnesses but wearing gloves all day without handwashing won't help. I feel as if there's a greater chance of getting an airborne illness. How do you all feel about wearing gloves as a cashier? I somewhat find it annoying and offensive. I feel as if having hand sanitizer at each counter would suffice.

We have had oodles of people getting arrested out of our Walmart bathrooms and parking lots for dealing and ODs. We have a lot of fentanyl and carfentanyl-laced stuff around here. My guess is it would have way more to do with that than germs.
Thanks for an answer ? I was curious as to why they were being worn. They refuse to give an answer when asked.
FolksBtrippin said:I would assume they wear them for friction in separating bills and opening grocery bags. You don't want them licking their fingers to do it. Eeuu.
Anyway, I think it's funny that they don't tell you why and even funnier that this offends you.
? That's a logical reason. It's funny that everyone thinks it really offends me. I just find it somewhat unprofessional.

In your OP, you said "I find this somewhat annoying and offensive." So there's that.
I wore gloves as a cashier when I had a cut on my hand, which was somewhat often from paper cuts handling bills.
I used to work retail and wished I had gloves! Money is filthy and people (especially some who don't seem to have great hygiene) will pull it out from unmentionable places. People would carry the dressing room number cards in their mouths before handing them to me. The metal hangers would stain my hands and make them smell gross. I've also found old used shoes, a dirty diaper, and a needle under racks. So yea...nothing wrong with wearing gloves.

You wore them because you had a cut. Thats a very good reason to wear them. I've worked retail in the past. I did not wear gloves. I guess I should of chosen better words. I stated somewhat.....that don't mean the sight of a cashier wearing gloves just bothers me to my core.
I have not seen it but would not find it annoying or offensive. I fail to see why anyone would and how would you know they wear them all day? Money is not too sanitary and easier to separate out bills with gloves.
Then their is that general 'germaphobia' e.g. commercials showing us that we need sanitize our entire home with some disinfectant which kills '99% of all germs/viruses', of course there is always one or two children in said commercials lending the latent message that we are bad moms' if we don't have the house disinfected...2018 and commercials still only show mom (apparently one needs two x chromosomes for this task.)

Oh WOW!......I've worked retail in the past too. I've never encountered the things you listed. Those are good reasons to wear gloves.

I shouldn't of stated all day. Some wear them for long periods of time. Hands sweat in gloves. I just find that gross.

Well, by the same token, all (or most) of us wear underwear for a long period of time and we sweat in them too. Should we not wear underwear and go commando? Or change underwear like gloves? Then we all would really have to go to Walmart to buy tons of cheap underwear. Hmmm...........

You don't necessarily know what's going to leak until you pick it up. Even as a shopper, I sometimes put my hand on something and realize too late that it's covered with "whatever".
