July 31 2017, guy fleeing police crosses median and slams into truck and dies. The truck catches fire severely burning the innocent driver, Mr. Gray, who was taken to SLC University. Police later showed up demanding to the UNCONSCIOUS innocent patient's blood. RN Alex shows them the policy requiring consent, arrest, or a warrant. Hospital administration back up RN Alex.
Police aggressively arrest RN Alex and removes her from the hospital. Officer body cam insanity released today:
NEWSPAPER ARTICLE:
Long video body cam:
In this video, the aggressive officer can be heard saying that he will ensure all the "transients" are brought to this hospitals ED since they won't cooperate after being told the administrators and privacy officer are on their way.
Original Crash (graphic):
Interesting note about Alex, she was a 2x Olympian, US Ski Team member, and national champion is Slalom and GS.
Student nurse here. Couldn't she have lost her license for complying (allowing the blood to be drawn?) I'm usually pretty anti-litigious, but in this case, I feel like she's almost duty-bound to see this thing through to the most extreme consequences. That was absolutely crazy. With regard to the security in the hospital, they are subordinate to the local police, so I feel like their hands were tied.
Yes. Her license would have been at risk had she allowed the officer to lay hands on the patient or drew the blood herself. She would have also opened herself up to potential assault charges.
I agree with you that Wubbles was exactly right -- calm, professional and clearly stating the policy that prevented her from acquiescing to the officer's demand. You are absolutely wrong in labeling Been there, done that a terrible nurse -- you know nothing at all about BTDT and the quality of her work. You have no basis to bash her nursing care.
You may disagree with BTDT, but she's a long term member of the forum and is often pretty spot on in her posts. As far as "burnt out and need a cubicle job or something" -- that's rude and unnecessary. Weren't you the one bashing on other nurses for their "lack of empathy and compassion" and shaming them for even being nurses. Isn't that a trifle hypocritical?
I'm sure most of us would be thrilled to be banned from caring for you or your family -- you're pretty combative on the forum. I can only imagine what you'd be like in real life.
Nice try but your just standing by her because you are mad I criticized you too. You are just nosey and want to feel like some alpha queen bee and assert social dominance, and it's a pretty laughabley weak play. Sorry not only do I just not agree with her but instantly lost respect from her impression just like I lost respect from your impression with your overtolerant and inappropriate "neutrality" ("look at how - neutral- I am, I'm such a better person) . Sometimes, neutrality isn't appropriate. I really don't have respect for either of your opinion by basis of your attitudes toward caring and empathy and it doesn't matter to me who you are, or forum popularity status, or how long you've been a "nurse", that is THE attitude that makes a "bad" nurse.
If we want to talk about what I lack in caring about is other people in my profession who make other nurses look bad, and I just can't believe she would say something so awful about someone who could possible be looking here, reading this. That attitude is the definition of "terrible" in nursing and you want me to cite all the books about what your role is and what makes a nurse be glad to since you forgot. Regardless, you insulted my family and said you would want to be banned from taking care of them, just because of what I said on one forum post. I guess you select who you give care to based on whether you like their family members or not. Another terrible trait and hypocritical of what you said about "me" saying personally offensive things. So you are not being neutral, you are being just as combative with a false sense of superiority that you want exert.
I literally can't believe the stuff spew from the mouth of both of you. Sorry but I actually take my job seriously and I think it's pretty understandable and almost expected for any nurse to get righteously angry when we see poor examples of the people in our profession
I joined all nurses because I wanted to meet people that were good examples of nurses to discuss thing and get input but I literally see far less quality nursing traits and competency than I do from hospital Cnas by this nice first impression I got from you "seasoned" members. I wonder if you are actually rns cause I am simply mind blown by the things you say. She literally insulted this other nurse and called her stupid (then reiterated how there is no place for "wimps" in nursing...as if I'm the only one who is telling people of who has he right to be a nurse). That is just unforgivable to me. I have a very poor impression of this forum and would think at least a moderator would delete the insensitive comments so the victim in the video didn't read them.
Sorry if you think I'm "combative". Plenty of other people disagreed with you guys too and weren't nice about it. And maybe I am a little bit anyway but I take unempathetic attitudes by other nurses personally very offensive so I feel 0 guilt to you or her for anything I have said, and if you disrespect others you forfeit respect yourself.
(then again maybe you are just resident trolls or something)
This is what we get for allowing our police forces across the country to function as militarized units. This is a direct result of police forces pushing back against demands for reform. They now feel they can act with impunity because it has been proven so often that they can. When are people going to have enough?
Actually what she did was exactly right and your probably a terrible nurse and it's a shame you have a license. I really don't give a **** about how long been a nurse since you've been a terrible one for that duration. First you don't realize that what she did was absolutely right, you are misinformating other nurses, and I can prove that academically and legally. Second you are terrible for calling any victim especially a fellow nurse and possible member of this forum a drama queen. I wouldn't let you touch my family members with that attitude. Maybe your burnt out and need a cubicle job or something and yes you could find one if you tried.
Judgmental, much?

It just gets worse and worse. Here they are plotting to get the blood and talking about how right they were. Pay attention to where one of them asks if the body cam should be turned off. I just can't even.

Yeah actually I was. I thought what she said was pretty cruel and "judgemental" and I'm not gonna downplay it so please don't bother asking me to
I guess it's fine and understandable if "there is no place for incompetent wimps like her in nursing" is said by a seasoned forum member publicly about this victim, but if I then say anything like that to her directly to her I'm "judgemental". Got it now, thanks.

This just shows what a corrupt douche bag this guy is.

While I agree with you about the post and have addressed the involved party directly I have to ask if you wouldn't mind dropping this subject for now? It's derailing a very important thread and might devolve enough to get it closed. I have asked the mods to remove the off-topic posts so we can continue to discuss the SLC incident without distraction. Really appreciate it.
I don't have anything to say about it if no one keeps bringing it up and as long as there are no more insults to fellow nurses/victims in a forum where they can be reading. I have 0 problem with moving on. And actually thank you for contacting them. I'm new and don't navigate the site well. I am sorry I derailed the topic.

Just take the high road my friend. You'll be better for it in the end.:)
