Hi again. I signed up for Anatomy and Physiology for fall, I am so nervous because all this science stuff is not making sense to me in my bio(intro) class. It just all seems so confusing. I am hoping A&P might be more interesting to me. I did well in all my other classes but if I can't do well in Science I wonder what my chances will be doing well in NUrsing School. Does anyone feel this way. Is this class just going to be alot of memorizing. I just keep hearing how horrible and hard it is. Any suggestions, study idea, should i buy a book b4 i go into the class??? THanks everyone.

I don't have suggestions for you but I wanted to say I am also registered for A&P 1 this fall and I'm scared to death! I haven't had a class of any kind in almost 15 years. I took bio and chem in high school and did ok but it was so long ago I don't remember anything. I got a chem book from the library and started reading.... and promptly got very discouraged. :stone
I keep hearing about flash cards and the coloring books being good ways to learn this stuff. I just ordered a coloring book and plan to buy the textbook next week and try to skim through some of it before class starts Sept 19.
Best of luck to you and know that you aren't in this boat alone LOL!

The coloring books are DEFINITELY the way to go!! I'll be taking A&P 1 this fall also and plan on getting them. I just finished Micro. and used the coloring book for that, and let me tell you....it helped SOOOOOOOOO much!! I really hated taking the time to color everything, because I kept thinking, "I could be studying my notes or the textbook. I'm sure I'm wasting my time." But, amazingly, it really helped me understand concepts better. The time I spent coloring helped the info. "soak" into my brain, and I was surprised at just how much it helped me remember things for tests. I ended up with "A's" in Micro., so it worked!! :)

Try to relax! A&P I & II are just not that hard! I did have a great instructor & that is half the battle. I am not a brain by any stretch of the imagination & it is alot of studying but its just not that difficult. Each step builds on the other so get it good on the ground floor so to speak. I cannot tell how important it is to have a good understanding of A&P it will help you sooooo much when you start your nsg. classes. I did not use the coloring books but I spent alot of time in the lab & the cover was practically torn off my A&P book. I would urge you if you don't understand something ask questions until you do. I did tape my lectures & listened to them if I was unsure about something. Good Luck I am sure you will be fine! :)
In A&P I we disected a cat had to know all the parts(stomach, lungs ect) on a cat & human, blood vessels, bones. Also sheep brain, cow heart, eye... each part how it worked. Pretty much the whole body & how it worked. This will give you something to work on... Its not as bad as it looks I promise so please don't be overwhelmed.
Well I also did pick up a book. It is called Anatomy and Physiology made incredibly easy or simple. Looking through it seems like this will help me alot. I am going to start reading some of it so when i go into that class i do Have a little understanding of what is going on. I picked up a small coloring book too. Good luck to you also.

A lot of the information you received in your biology class will be applicable to your A&P classes, the application will just be specific to the human body - especially in the physiology component. Maybe the preparation from the biology class will help. The more science classes I take, the more inter-related they all become. I never thought I had an aptitude for science either until I started taking the classes, and now I realize I've been missing out all these years. Hang in there and work hard...just remember - the anatomy part is memorization and the physiology part is understanding. Keep homeostasis and form following function in the back of your mind at all times.
Great advice! I found the physiology part to be much more difficult, but once you put it all together, it makes sense.
Also, don't worry about your natural science aptitude in relation to nursing school. Yes, A&P is an important pre-req, but nursing school is a whole different ballgame (or so I've been told). It's much more about critical thinking and using the skills you've learned.

Wait and see how your teacher is. My book made no sense to me, but lecture explained everything thoroughly. Coloring books and flashcards are a helpful tool as well. Note recorders too if they are allowed.

I took A & P I in the spring (online!) and was quite nervous before it began. I think the key is to stay focused on the topic/chapter you are studying. Don't make yourself anxious by looking ahead. I also found that studying a bit each day helps a lot.
For each exam, I wrote out flashcards. When I knew I was comfortable with the information on the card, I put it aside. By the time I walked into the exam, I had a few cards of info I was having trouble remembering to look at just before the test began. This helped me see how much I knew versus how much I needed to learn.
In the end, I loved A & P I, and an looking forward to taking A & P II this fall.

hello,
it is not that difficult if you enjoy it and study plenty
don't worry about a thing, it is mostly memorization and what each thing does. it sounds overwhelming but it is not so bad. the only thing that gets to most people is the amount of material covered in such a small time frame. discipline and reserved study time will do the trick. good luck to you. :)

I'm taking these two classes in the Fall. I'm nervous about the whole science thing. I only have the sciences to get me into a nursing program. I really have to be organized this semester. I'm also taking other classes at the university to get into either a bsn program or a adn program. These other classes at the university are capstone requirements, so i'm thinking they wouldn't be that bad.

I feel the same way Brandy. Science is not my strong point. I just hope that anatomy and physiology will make more sense. I want to get into the nursing field so much! I just keep thinking one day at a time.
