OK Siblings...need your prayers and positive thoughts sent this way.

My best friend and her hubby were planning to join us in a "get away" weekend this coming Saturday... anywhere.. just to get away somewhere before cold weather arrives for real. Were still working out the plans, so I emailed her last night to see what the latest options were.

She informed me she had been home "sick" for most of the week. Now she is NOT the "sickly" type... like me, she is the perpetual energizer bunny.

Said she had been back and forth to the cardiologist all week...was having bigeminal and trigeminal PVCs. Hit her from out of the blue...never had any cardiac issues in the past. She's in her early to mid forties. Said they put her on cardiac meds BID and did the echogram, and all sorts of other tests... were following up. Said she was feeling pretty decent now and was going back to work this Monday.

I emailed her back and told her I'd like to stop by this AM and visit with her.. just got an email now saying she is on her way to the ER... was woken up out of her sleep with severe nausea, "heartburn", and pain in her left shoulder.. that her heart was skipping madly....she checked her BP and it was only 70/32 .

Now I'm not one to wallow in worry.. not my style. However, I am very concerned and need some hugs and warm thoughts here, guys.

She's my best friend...the one true friend I have here. It's not easy making friends when you're not a "local" in these parts. While everyone is nice and "friendly", you're still considered an "outsider". Ppl here already have solid friendships from childhood on, and it's difficult forming new friendships when you wern't born and raised in the area... add to that the age factor.. the older you get, the harder it is to form new and lasting friendships.

But Jayne and I hit it off right from the get-go. We're so much alike, it's amazing ! We even look alike ! (except she's blond, with a loose cury bob instead of a dark, straight bob). We're both live wires, love to laugh and be annoyingly silly and get ourselves into trouble any chance we get. Our hearts and passions are the same. In little over a year, we have become best buds.

It was she who took me under her wing when I was preparing for my big "make it or break it" clincal exams and offered me the opportunity to shadow her for about 6 weeks at her hospital on her medsurge unit... which I did. She was a great coach and supporter, and filled me with encouragement and confidence.

She was also to be my preceptor in the near future as I had applied to her hosp. to work some PRN there as soon as I receive my NC licence... hopefully this week. We were both so excited about having the opportunity to work together now and then !

My heart is heavy right now as I await more news. Don't want to go to the ER as I'm sure her hubby would like to be with her by himself.. and they have probably called their youngest dtr. who is in nursing school several hours down the road in NC.

Their other daughter is in Taiwan.. doing a teacher's exchange program there for a year. Jayne had just gotten her passport and all her rounds of injections to fly over there next month to visit her. She was soooo excited... Now perhaps not.

Sorry this is so long... it helps to write it all out. :o

Thanx for listening.

jnette,

My prayers are with you and for your friend at this time. ((((((hugs to you)))))) for being such a special friend.

my husband is a pastor and I have a prayer book that we list prayer request in I will write this down in my book and pray over it every day.please let us know how it turns out. God Bless :)

Jnette,

I have a very close friend like that, too.

I don't make friends easily, but the friends I have are friends for life. My husband lived in the state you live in for years, and much of his family still does. He told me that one of the reasons he wanted to leave the area is that"outsiders" are never fully accepted. So, when you do find acceptance and friendship, it is a really big and important thing in your life!

Prayers said that your friend's doctors be at their most skilled, that she gets the best of tx and that she responds well to that tx. Prayers also said that God comfort and support all involved at this scary time.

Your online friend,

Wow... you all are simply the best... I feel truly humbled by your many responses ... your hugs, prayers, and best wishes. How very comforting. Big warm hugs back to each and every one of you!

OK.. No email in my box this morning.. that wasn't pleasant. Couldn't call her hubby at 0300 no matter how concerned I was..he needed his sleep, I'm sure.

So I had to work all day wondering where she was.. HOW she was... was her bright and smiley face still smiling ? Or was it pitiful, pale, and puny ? Was she in pain? Was she even coherent? OMG, was she even ...... ......... ........alive?

Just got home an hour ago and raced straight to the computer.. still nothing. Called her house.. nothing. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH !!

So... I called another friend's hubby who is Jayne's hubby's parter on the ambulance squad...they're both paramedics. I figured surely he would know something. He did.

So far, she's still OK !!! :D They admitted her yesterday am to her own hosp. where she works, and were considering transferring her to Baptist Hospital. Had her scheduled for every kind of stress test today, and other tests... depending on the outcome they would transfer. Of course I just called down there to her unit. (this is the unit I'm supposed to start orienting on for PRN status next week... just obtained my NC licence in the mail today.. whoooot!!!.. and she was to be my preceptor !)

ANYWAY.. they said she had just been discharged but couldn't tell me if she was transferred or sent home.

But at least I know she's ALIVE !!! Ohhhhhhhh, thank you, thank you !!!

Yes, I'm going to call her house tonight until I reach someone. Have a quick inservice at work tomorrow, then I'm heading straight over there if she's at home. I'm SO very relieved.

Yes, Hellllllo... friends are hard to come by in this area. While I've always made friends quite easily, it IS difficult in this region to "break in" to that tightly knit circle of family and previously formed friendships. And while I don't think I have a "northern" accent per say, folks here KNOW I'm not from "these parts" and while they are warm and friendly, you're still an outsider... even after 20 years in the area.

But Jayne was different. She welcomed me into her life right from the get-go. We just "clicked". We laughed ourselves silly and she acted as though she had known me all her life. I felt like I had found a longlost sister. And to top it off, she's a sharp, dedicated, wonderful, and caring nurse. :nurse:

So thank you, my Allnurses friends for all your best wishes.

It's appreciated more than you know.

Promise to keep you posted. :)

Jnette, just saw your post

Hugs and prayers to your very special friend

sounds like she's one of those precious jewels :)

Hope to hear some good news soon

you take care, Kim ((((( hugs)))))):kiss

WooHOOOOOOO !!!

Just talked to my buddy, my pal !!! :D

She's home.. no work for 10 days. They admitted her to her own tele med/surge unit... they wanted to keep her another day but she BEGGED to be sent home... she just wasn't getting a moment's REST !!! All her colleagues kept filing in... hanging out.. concerned and well meaning to be sure, but how silly we can be...all she wanted was to shut her eyes and REST !!! They never gave her a moment's peace.

She laughed and said they knew she was coming and met her at the ER.. said " there's nothing about my body that's a secret anymore... everyone I work with was there at the ER... don't have a shred of privacy left... the WHOLE hospital knows every detail about my body and life history ! :chuckle

All her cardiac labs were FINE. Did them every six hours. Stress test was FINE. She refused to get off....said " we nurses just have to prove sth., don't we?" HR at 182 and no pain.. she stayed on nine minutes 'til her doc threatened to jerk a knot in her a$$ to get her off there! "But I'm FINE, Doc ! Look, I can go another 10 minutes.. raise that thing another 45 degrees.. we nurses are TOUGH !!! We'll run this thing 'til it KILLS us !!!"

Troponin and CK levels fine. Sent her to nuclear medicine for the heart dye... did find two small areas of blockage in the anterior coronary artery.

But the doc feels it is more stress related than anything. Asked her about her upcoming trip to Taiwan to see her dtr., that perhaps this may have triggered it, even if on the outside she felt cool and calm about it. Asked her when she bought her plane tickets.. yep.. the day the troubles started. (she's never flown before and here she is about to embark on a journey around to the other side of the globe!)

So... he put her on Topril, Ambien, ASA qd and wants to see her every week for the next 6 weeks. One more episode and she goes for a catheterization. If S/S continue, her trip is out. So we'll see.

Was going to go pay her a visit tomorrow, but after what she went through with all her coworkers around the clock, I think I'll just let her curl up with a warm blanket, turn the gas logs on (yes, it's raining again and wiiiiiiiiiiindy !) read some magazines and rest, rest, rest ! ;) I'll check in with her this weekend.

So that's the update. Glad to share that the outcome was less threatening than it appeared at the start. Now to KEEP it that way !!! :)

WOOT! Good news! Thanks for the updates. I'm torn between wanting nothing to be found, and wanting SOMETHING to be found out, -- an answer (easily fixable, of course!), the WHY of her s/sx. No, I take it back, I really don't wish ANYTHING to be found. I just want this to go away and never return!

Jayne sounds so feisty, going and going on the treadmill!
