Vent Sesh

Published

It's one of those days. I feel myself being much less patient than usual. So now I'll spend a minute complaining about everything that's annoying me.

  • Administration moved the printer into my office. People won't stop asking me for printer help "how do I fix a jam? Where do we keep extra paper?" or chatting my ear off while I'm trying to work. Not caring when I say "sorry I can't help, I've got to get this done."
  • I'm keeper of the tissues. While on the phone with a parent a little (old enough to know better) came in and screamed "I NEED TISSUES" then beat the tissue box on my door frame (as I held a "one second please" finger up) until I got off the phone.
  • Multiple high schoolers telling me they feel sick but can't find any words to describe WHAT feels ill or HOW it feels ill. Then flabbergasted when I say they have to go back to class.
  • High schooler came in and reported symptom of "I feel like I'm being sucked to the ground like a vacuum. Like into a black hole." WUT.

Anyone else need to vent?

I can't seem to figure out why the previous nurse stock-piled 5 sets of crutches; I'm certainly not giving them out unless a family can't afford a set, but in my state, all kids are entitled to insurance, so unless a family gets screwed out of public assistance or has a high deductible, this isn't an issue.

Definitely! I did save some pieces of the crutches in case a kid loses a bolt or needs new under arm pads, but I had to throw those suckers away. I got to school once and found a kid incorrectly using them while walking down stairs at 7:45AM. That was the final straw.

In an attempt to "increase support" for our phone lines, my administrators thought it would be okay to start diverting overflow calls to the school to the phone in my office ?

So far this week we've gotten numerous calls about attendance questions, information about bus routes, parents calling to set up meetings with teachers, etc. The phone rings every few minutes and it's not even a call for us!

we need a face palm emoji!

On one message board that I frequent, we have one. It is a picture of Patrick Stewart (as Jean Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation) with his palm over his face.

Yes, we've been forwarding the calls per our Principal: "just transfer the call to the appropriate office, let me know if you need help transferring a call!" (?) So we were... until the office manager told us to stop transferring them and to answer as best as we could, as well as gave us prompts and scripts to read depending on the nature of the call (??)

oh my sweet baby jesus!! that's so inappropriate!! Can you imagine if you expected other departments to answer your calls and try to handle the questions or issues that come from them?

I just can't!!!!! I had one of my frequent fliers come in with a juice in one hand and a glucometer in the other "I am shaky and low."

Ughhh, this girl IS NOT A DIABETIC but one of her friends is and friend's mom got her set up....................

Turns out she has been checking her BS in class for weeks with no questions from teachers until today. I JUST CAN'T.

We had threats of a snow day but nothing happened so everybody is super disappointed today. I live in the part of Texas where flu, cold and allergy season all blend together so FUN TIMES!!
