VENT: school still ruining my life after graduation

Published

I just wanted to vent about the situation Im in. So I graduated nursing school with a 4.00 and was blessed with an awesome job lined up in the first unit of my choice in the first hospital of my choice, passed the NCLEX accor to Pearson Vue and cannot start work because my school is lagging on the transcripts.

Mind you, I graduated in mid December. Im not sure how long it takes for someone to put my official degree into an envelope and mail it.

Im just feeling a little out of control here because I feel like I was responsible and did everything I could to get my license on time, but my slow school is actually going to make me lose my job and is costing me hundreds of dollars each day because they havent sent out my transcripts so my license number can be issued. (The hospital wont accept interim permits)

The best part is, I call my nursing school to inquire about the progress (in a polite, non-blaming manner) and am met with the typical condescension and rude phone etiquette I have experienced through out nursing school. I cannot wait to be rid from this place. The lady had no idea when the transcripts would be mailed out even though they were officially released last week. I understand that the nursing department may not be solely at fault, but how come it is always my school that infringes upon my inalienable rights ;) and causes me heart ache and sleepless nights?

I tried to solve the problem my self and asked if I could pick up my official transcripts and send it on my own but the office person said they must all be sent at once from the school. This sounds asinine to me.

Throughout this whole process I have notified my employer and volunteered to do online training and preparation beforehand but Im just not sure how long this job will wait when I've heard that more than 3000+ are vying for the position. And if I lose this job, no new grad programs will start until summer and I cannot go that long without work and God only knows if a job will be available for me then.

I've also heard that in California (where I live) there is another 3 week wait after transcripts are released. I was supposed to start my job a week ago. Although Im enjoying the time off and break, Im going crazy over the idea of losing my dream job and not being able to do anything to stop it.

I hated my disorganized nursing school while I was in it and now they are driving me insane even after graduation!

Do you have any words of encouragement or ideas to help? Or how about just join in in bashing my school?

I don't know if this will help anyone.. or maybe just relieve a bit of stress (oh and believe me I understand the stress!!!)

My college mailed our transcripts on Jan. 16th... so the BRN wouldn't have gotten them at all for a couple days... and we were also told 3 weeks but today 4 of my fellow students' names were on the BRN website!!! All the rest of us are ANXIOUSLY awaiting tomorrow to see if our names are listed too... actually I've been feeling like puking all day... I don't do well with suspense LOL

I am in CA and graduated Dec. 14th.. took NCLEX-RN on Jan 14th... and hoping and praying that just *maybe* tomorrow I will find out whether I get to start working or not...

Good luck to all!

Hey JordanB

How did your visit to the BRN work out? I've got my fingers crossed for ya :)

If you have your nursing license why are they wanting your transcript. I was only asked to produce the license.

I was wondering the same thing.......????????????? I never showed my transcripts to anyone..........but that was many years ago.........are employers asking for transcripts now in addition to your license??

At least in California, after you take the NCLEX, your results aren't released until the BRN processes your file - including your transcript. Your first notification is that your name shows up on the BRN website as a licensed nurse. Your license shows up in the mail a week or two later.

Until your transcripts arrive at the BRN - and are processed - you're on hold.

I dont have my license. thats the problem. They cant release my license until my transcripts are recieved

When I graduated with my Bachelor's, not in nursing, I had a similar problem. My school would not confirm my completion of school so they allowed me to prining off of the internet, but i know that nursing is much more of a control feild and you have to cover all of your bases.

Maybe they will allow you to go to the school and pick it up in a sealed envelope? I know most places will give you your transcripts that way.

It is customary for schools to make your graduation official in at least 3 months (about one semester), depending on how many students graduate. Before then, your graduation status will not show up on your transcripts. At my university, the registrar told me that they look over each student's transcript individually to check if everything is in order for graduation. They don't send it out untill all of them are finished. My graduating class was about 500 people, it is an accredited public 4 year university in california.

I never really had anything good to say about school except I did make some of the best friends there. I still remember my first day thinking this is going to be the worst two years of my life. But thank God for my study group or I wouldn't have made it. Of course, now I can't get a job. I passed my NCLEX (in fact I was the first one in my class) I have sent resumes out, called, stood on my head... But no job prospects. I don't even know what to do now. Of course my school is no help. Every hospital that I did clinicals said they they had budget cuts and are not hiring any new graduates. Figures... just my luck. Now I am trying to beg every person I know at any hospital to bring my resume in for me. Somethings got to give soon.

I graduated in December 2008 and passed boards in February. If you have a license it was understood that I had the proper education, at least in my case it was.

That is sooo crazy!!! You would not be eligible to take boards if you hadn't finished school. Sorry you are having so many problems.
